The image you labeled for a CUCV is the 28MT which is the permanent magnet gear reduction. The one you labeled for the HMMWV is the 27MT series field direct drive. They use a different end bracket but are otherwise interchangeable. Both are 24 volt. The 28MT is a lot easier to install.
Two bolts by the ring gear, then the electrical and the bracket on the back.
DIY overhaul. Starter and alternator parts warehouse, you have to know if it is a 27 or 28. The 28 MT is the gear reduction unit and smaller.
Remember the HMMWV and CUCV share starters. So lots of experience in...

Two receiver hitches? Going to make a spare tire carrier for the top for when I get a flat on the 33s. They will not fit under. Yes, 31" spare.
The air bags replaced the top overload spring. I routed the fill hose to the vertical bolt hole in the frame extensions, providing a good mounting location.\
I am driving the truck to work just to get it back on the road. And show off. Not a single tool used at work (now)
Timing by ear...
The cork wedge prevents migration of GO to GAA through the key cut. It never worked in my experience. GO worked fine on the wheel bearings with the GAA. It was something we all had to do on annual services.
Gringletaube introduces a great image of why this joint leaks, it has a dynamic...
This seal keeps dirt out of the bearings. Bearings are lubricated with GAA, the problems start with the axle shaft seal and GO leaking into the bearings, causing the inner seal to be overloaded.
Check diameter and if good, it should be fine. Put a thin layer of GAA on the seal area to prevent...
I'm going for small twins. Turbos are based on engine power. A single Banks is good for 200+ horsepower. A VNT 15 is good for 100 horsepower. Less than half the size too.
Now after a week back on the road as a commute (25 miles to work), I found the following issues:
1. Poor economy. 11...
With the cover off, move the metering valve through full turns to see if it sticks, this is the most likely cause of your problems. Definitely try the Diesel Mechanic in a Bottle. It is a powerful detergent, the best I have found for dissolving varnish. Give it a few hours to work and get...
NICE! 4" lift over 35s? Got mine back on the road after 18 months thanks to divorce and medical issues with parents. Had to de-varnish the injection pump, install Air Lift on the rear and new 33s all around.
Why Air Lift? Tools. Lots of tools. Miller Dynasty 200 DX with full kit of welding...
The green wire on the injection pump is the cold start advance, it overcomes the case drain check valve cracking pressure, around 5 PSI. This further advances timing.
On my 1031, the install of the PTO governor was incorrect and they had put a switched 12 volt line to the green wire, causing...
That is the low speed timing advance, driven off the throttle shaft cam. The timing advance is also driven by fuel pressure.
I have had great luck with Diesel Mechanic in a Bottle. Just recently too after my 1031 sat for over a year and had the same symptoms. Take the top cover off, siphon...
I don't have to change the injection pump!! It runs perfect now, another hat tip to Diesel Mechanic in a Bottle. I have a gallon jug on my shopping list with the intake gaskets and port burrs for my die grinder.
The mufflers and tail pipes on my 1031 are fine, the front pipes are nearing...
The 1031 was designed for gear heads..mechanics who know how to drive. Limited slip front is great for unsticking but driving twisties in 4WD can be interesting to say the least. I have multiple recoveries from slick spots using the previous BFG Commercial TAs, never slipping.
With the first...
I cleaned a year and a half of divorce dirt from the 1031. And got the generator running again, the 12 volt tap off the fuse block had been pulled out. Compressor filled the tank. Windows cleaned and monthly PMCS performed. Sent an oil sample off.
All in jest..this will not happen again.
What happened? Well, the Beefy Goodrich tyres were old. And the YOUNGEST developed a nasty belt separation. Then I developed a positive cash flow..
Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx in 255 85 R16. On new 8" wide rims for stability. Or hub protection...
My M 1031 required one as it is an EOD variant with special communication racks. So it touched controlled equipment. Now if it held a weapon system, it would require demil. Like a ring mount, tripod or bayonet.
Regs are written in blood.
Cooper ST Maxx in 255/85R16 are excellent. No noise, great traction on road.
255s will not rub IF DRMO didn't modify the fenders..just a light diddling of the left aft fender liner due to forklift abuse. A little metal massage with a dolly will eliminate this, no tire damage, just a little...
Also road tested the Coopers. Speedometer is now spot on, no sensible loss of acceleration. The tires seem to wander a bit, going to monitor the wear of the molding vent sprues to see if a bit more toe out will help tracking.
No noticeable noise over highway BFG Commercial TAs. Had one...
