    Cucv tire carrier

Get a receiver hitch, then use that to mount a spare up high. It comes off easily and you have a receiver hitch. I'm all for multi functionality. I like hitches so much I put a hitch under my hitch. Top one is my fabrication, bottom is a Class V beast which is street legal. I run 33s which...

    M1009 Return line diagram

Yes, the case drain on the injection pump has a check valve in it. It is called the case pressure regulator as case pressure influences timing. More pressure means less advance, lower pressure advances timing. There is a solenoid which unloads the check valve spring, causing case pressure to...

    M1031 to RV tug..

Have not increased max fuel and its atmospherically aspirated..no turbo.

    M1031 to RV tug..

Forget the conversion..all up cost is far more than a 4L80E transplant. So looks like the 4 speed is still on. Got the thermocouple installed and test ran. Highway 65 MPH wide open is 1200 F. Ouch. So the next upgrade is intake port and polish, cold air intake and possibly water injection...

    Guilty Pleasure

    Uncle Sugar paid over $32k for my CUCV back in the 1980s. That is about $74,000 today ;}

Why didn't they just use 24v glow plugs?

Engines, transmissions, body panels, frames and most of the parts are turnkey items. The CUCV line was just a variation of assembly and by using a commercial base engine, the costs were contained. Engines arrived with all base parts, just belt drive variations like alternators and power...

    Lift kits

I'm running 255 85 R16s on 16x8 rims with zero offset..flange is right at 4" inside the rim. The tires are within the wheel wells..up front. I have a 1031 SECM so it is a bit wider than a 1008/1028. These are 33" diameter tires, no lift up front and air bags in the rear to ride level as I...

    M1031 to RV tug..

I'm still stalled. OT and family stuff taking up my waking hours. I think I have all requirements nailed on the truck, now its onto wish lists.

How about a lockup torque converter for the TH400? WHAT? Frog's hair and hen's teeth? No, this is possible just recently. Coan Engineering does a fair bit of custom modifications to the TH400, mostly for the drag strip. Going to ask for more info but it looks like $1200 for the required...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

EGT installed for testing. If the cooling system is leaking into exhaust, I will see a dramatic temperature drop. Mounted it to the side of the STE-ICE port as I didn't have a 2-1/16" hole saw. Ideally a punch die set to mount next to the voltmeter as that is thin aluminum. I just tapped...

Great. The local supply is $$$ Going to do Rock Auto and buy one of each brand. Fortunately its two bolts and now the crossover has Helicoils.

    M1031 to RV tug..

Relearning the wiring diagrams for the EGT gauge install. I need switched power and instrument lights, red circuit 3 and gray circuit 8 should do respectively. Yes, I have a voltmeter and know how to use it ;) Gauge going next to voltmeter.

Gates 33924. Now I hear bad things about Gates. It goes in tomorrow after coolant flush.

Can you run JP8 in the CUCV M1009 ?

It meets or exceeds gel point, corrosion and particulate. But it doesn't meet wear scar or cetane index as these are CI specifications for diesel. Yes, it CAN be used but it isn't a DIRECT replacement. Therefore it is an inferior replacement good. It has slightly lower energy density too.

Can you run JP8 in the CUCV M1009 ?

Yes, they ran them on JP8. '85+ and later came with pumps that were better suited to the lower lubricity of this fuel. Some pumps have a rebuild tag showing this, others don't but are fine. A tank or two won't matter. But JP8 isn't tested for ignition delay (cetane index) so it can impact...

    M1031 to RV tug..

Guess a coolant temperature gauge is in order. Running out of room for instrumentation. Yes, I could swap the over temp idiot light with a gauge but I want to keep the blackout capability. Don't know if the over temp light is disabled in blackout..diesels don't overheat at 5 MPH road march...

    CUCV thermostat vs HMMWV thermostat

Local parts store quoted me $48 so I searched based on gm part number from -24 and got it online. Looks like a HMMWV type. The rubber is a positive seal element. It has the purge check valve jingle thing. We shall see how it lasts.

Take care when selling your Deuce.

You probably did no harm as long as the governor is properly set. We ran them at full peg many times. One even had a bit more and would do 65+ MPH.

    M1031 to RV tug..

I "bumped" the injection timing by reconnecting the cold start timing advance to a switched 12 volt source (the SECM install had incorrectly done this). Wow, that 5 degrees of advance is awesome! Also beneficial to exhaust gas temperature and economy. A little more clatter, especially when...
