Thanks for the update! Pls, send more tire pictures (PM perhaps) if you get a chance.
The date code on the one posted is probably 49th week of 1977 and it looks like a recap...
About the horns, the original was the electric and the air horn was added on an MWO in the early to mid seventies. I...
I have some info on "Superflex" heater kits models 460 and 461 and they date to the early '50s, run on gasoline and operate on 6VDC. They are for the 1/4 ton trucks...
Started the set 0830 this morning. The good news is that after a field flash, it generated 120/208 VAC, however, just like Peter predicted, there was smoke, less than a minute after the field flash, with the typical smell of melting wire insulation. I shut it down immediately. The thermocouple...
Thank you Peter and Ike for the heads up on the possibility of heat/smoke...
I'll have a thermocouple probe taped to the generator case, so that any radical temp increase can be caught in time.
The control box is now rewired for the 120/208 3ph (2 ph?) as shown above. I had everything ready to...
Alright, so what are the consequences of this modified "120/208V 3 phase" wiring modification?
Image below shows the wiring according to the selector switch on top (ideal) and the modified wiring as suggested by Ike with the shorted windings isolated.
Power capacity? Is 208VAC harmful to...
An enlarged portion of the diagram attached.
By the wiring diagram, the VR works on 120VAC (same as convenience outlet).
I plan on working on this tomorrow. Your help is greatly appreciated!
The most severe load that the generator has seen during the last 25 hours of operation (since last July) would be the water heater, which is somewhere around 4KW. Don't know what is considered an overload with the "split phase" hook-up.
Interesting idea rewiring so that the shorted windings are...
That's one solution I am hoping for, but need to know how much the connector can be pulled out safely. It's pretty tight and will only come out about 1/2 inch or so and I'm not ready to pull harder without knowing what's inside.
Having made the unpleasant discovery that my 10KW generator suffer from a short circuit between two of its windings, T2, T5 to T8, T11, I wondering how this can happen. Perhaps some of the electrical heavyweights, Isac, Speedemon and others can help explain.
This equipment is extremely well...
Thanks Bob, much appreciated.
Again, I see the error in my ways of doing things (not looking at the details or overlooking the obvious), the pin numbers in Fig 8-7 refer to the J4 connector on the generator head NOT the connector at the control box end. It should be labeled J4 or P4 while the...
Yes, thanks, it may be a helpful confirmation of my readings. On my set, the windings terminated on pins 2, 5, 8 and 12 are all shorted and should be two separate non-connected windings if I read the TMs right at all.
My previous posts on this subject are under the heading "MEP018 Field Flash...
Starting to work on my shorted stator winding problem, I'd like to point out that there is a problem with the suggested continuity test with what's shown in the diagrams.
The procedure according to TM 5-6115-275-35 wants you to test for continuity between pins 3 to 6, 8 to 12, 7 to 10, 1 to 4...
Checked the windings of the generator and it appears that I have a short between two of them, the ones terminated via (J1) pins 2, 5, 8 and 12 are shorted...
Not good, will be difficult to work on, probably best to look for a new generator head, so if anybody is parting out a MEP018, let me know.
Check on the requirements for the pump before you get too far, my crane needs about 15 plus Hp to operate, too much for a belt driven pump IMHO.
Also 10 GPH @3,000 psi continuous duty.
Call Clark Truck Parts ((304)-755-8811) in Poca, WV for parts, they probably have what you need.
Well, I installed the control box and fired up the engine and with a known good wiring it does the same thing as before, bog down the engine when the field flash is engaged...guess the damage was already done.
Next I'll be checking the generator windings for shorts and continuity...
Taking a...
To recap, the unit was running well racking up some 25 hours since last Summer and after sitting for a couple of weeks in December, it barely started, ran terribly (low rpm) so I shut it down. In a separate thread I show how one of the cylinders was replaced on the 4A084 engine and it now starts...
