The "tub" method, has worked great for me. The methanol and sodium hydroxide is mixed in a glass jar with a wooden spoon. Be careful with commercial "reactors" made of plastic, a static electricity discharge can easily ignite the methanol.

In the second image, you have what looks like two different batteries. If you run the starter motor with different batteries in series, the cranking amps will be limited by the battery with higher internal resistance. I have to say that it sounds like the cranking rpm is on the low side.
