Dave, if you can't find what you need, it's always possible to make your own custom chains based on a chain "stock" size/dimension. I made 4ea for the 8x8 according to the TM pictures since nothing was to be found. Modified the 1100-20 tire chains, which had the same chain dimensions (side...
Two separate fuel tanks with their own in-tank pumps is a nice back-up in case of a pump failure, for example. Also good when switching from diesel to veggie/bio fuels after warm-up "on the fly".
After years of experiments, this is what I now have on my 8x8:
1) Motorized 3-way valves, one for...
Ref: Patrick's schematic above.
Be careful with this arrangement and don't use it when the engine/alternator is running. Switching the alternator load off will create some serious voltage spikes (load dump) and possibly kill the regulator .
No, we tied the rear axle to make the long haul home easier (see my avatar)...along with removing the drive shafts.
To my knowledge, the LaFrance trucks were not used in the Pershing program, only the Fords (xm757 etc), the MAN and lastly the Oshkosh HEMTT road tractor w/crane.
Right, made bikini tops and "tonneau" covers from canvas and left-over cargo cover since neither existed for my trucks.
Used silicone adhesive and rivets (eyelets) only, no stitching involved.
A near perfect match is the Aervoe 997B, which I use on my 1969 xm757. The color matches original Vietnam era paint very well, perhaps a dealer here (Alan Haage in New Jersey) can send you a can...
Definitely, a good welder can clean that up in no time, I have seen my son Adrian restore large areas on his Cj7 and M37 projects with a grinder, some sheet metal and a wire-feed welder.
My welding skills are not that good and the M105 (103) I received from Kenny under similar circumstances was...
How much can be attributed to the turbo is hard to tell without testing the engine with different turbos, but Continental must have had their reasons.
The truck is very responsive, but then the horsepower to weight ratio is better than for most MVs. The xm757 weighs less than my crane equipped...
The turbo for the 465-2 is pictured below. Description from the TM:
"The unit (=turbo) is dual chambered and was designed specifically for this engine (=465-2) to provide proper air flow at all engine speeds."
I have a Donaldson muffler I can sell, military issue for the m656/xm757/xm791 trucks, which I'll never use. It's for the 465-2 engine and pipe size is the same as for the deuce.
Used very little, PM me if interested... $65 plus shipping. I'll post the part number in a bit.
Edit: Donaldson P/N...
I have run my deuce at "low" (1,000-1,500 ) revs for hundreds of hours over the years, operating the crane. The engine needs only 1/2 hour or so on the highway to clear.
It uses about 1 gal/hr, if not loaded down at those rpms.
Like WM said, you need deep cycle batteries if you plan to run them...
That's for the m151, lots of parts you won't need, including oil pan heater and ducting... There are better "kits" for your purpose.
Matt, did you give up on making your own? Connectors are available and you make it as long as you need it to be (varies with application).
