Both bracket part numbers are the same on fig. 148 and 253,....just the drawing is wrong.
They will work....and look like pic 2 [ fig. 253 } tm9-2320-387-24p
Had to notch the body out on two real rusty ones in the past....then less of an angle.
Then an impact swivel, 1" gun a wrench and vise grips on the nut after heating up the nut......came off.
Here's the shifter.
The upper switch is a neutral sw., lower one is Rev. switch.
The hole in shifter for rev. sw. is bigger, thats why they use a bushing as seen in photos.
Bushing outer diameter is about 3/4"
.
Check your main bracket.....the long skinny slotted part of it tends to crack when the rear bracket gets loose , and sometime the exhaust stud shears off.
Then with a combination of some above condition....Alt. tab could break.
