Deuce is broke down in Maine :-(

Precisely - cause there is no such code (requiring internal rear view mirror) - at least in Tennessee. I have a number of friends who are officers, and appreciate (and respect) the work they do - but this guy struck me as a freshly minted deputy who was truly full of himself. After he had...

    Winch question

The shift mechanism is a weak point, as are the seals, which can sometimes cause the brake lining to be soaked - then of course the matter of the wire rope. FWIW, the correct, from a purest's standpoint, winch for the V18A/MTQ will have a Gar Wood nameplate on the top plate. Regards, David

    Old M35 gasser electrical question?

The wiring numbers are universal - except for WWII - and I think early armored combat vehicles.

    M543A2 Winner On GL

The manual says the net weight of the truck is 34,600 lbs. Fluids would add at the most another ton, the OVM probably a little less than that. The truck most assuradly was not turned in with all the OVM, which included a LOT of handtools. I'd be real reluctant to be accusatory until the truck...

    Old M35 gasser electrical question?

If no one else answers, I can look the wire numbers up in the morning. OR, if there is a M37 manual on line - those numbers are likely listed in it, and will serve the same function on the M35. Breaker (s) are under the dash if they are not on the firewall. Hope this helps, David

Deuce is broke down in Maine :-(

There are a number of reasons I would not care to be a law enforcement officer (remember the case a few years ago where a guy that threw an infant out of the window of a care on the expressway, and was "apprehended" - a prime example, were I the officer catching him - I doubt he'd have been...

    M543A2 Winner On GL

As Jeff Foxworthy would say - you might be a readneck...... But I believe if the step were only 18" I'd just drive it off, especially if was loaded so that it could back off. My concern about the singles isn't the weight rating of the tires - but the ground pressue exerted by the vehicle...

Kenny, You gotta point there! DD

    Winch question

You need to get clarification of exactly what broke. Sometime, the big worm pushes its way out of the bottom of the aluminum winch housing. Sometimes, the PTO pulls out of the transmission. Sometimes, the winch housing breaks after cracking the transmission case near the PTO. So look at...

    It Worked!

I'm with Kenny - but I'd also pull the interaxle drive shaft - sounds like you need to lessen the rolling resistance all you can. Another thought - and some of the other guys know a heck of a lot more about this than I do - but older civy wreckers (pre-rollback) often had dolly wheels they...

Wish I'd known you were in town - I'm about 20 minutes from Memphis Equipment.

I've never set out to put larger than stock tires on any of my vehicles - but I am here to tell you that you need AT LEAST as much contact area as you have now. My 5 ton wrecker leaves deep ruts in places that a deuce goes without leaving a trail. A friend in the reserves tells me that on...

    Missing items on new truck

Almost all the hot water cab heaters are alike on big trucks - the differences are the thermostats and the grille covers.

    5 ton insurance

I was in an accident earlier this year. My out of pocket medical expenses have exceeded $10,000.00 and climbing, and my insurance carrier has paid out over $40,000.00 - and they trying every way they can to find someone else to hang there share onto. As most of you know, I'm self employed, so...

    Heating oil

160 gallons is really not a lot of liquid - again, not knowing what your fuel is currently stored in makes it hard to speculate - but if its in something above ground I'd be inclined to use a plastic siphon drum pump - the ones that fit a 55 gallon drum can usually be bought for under 30 bucks...

    Heating oil

As pointed out, in that same thread - the old-time tried and true method is to pump off the top of the liquid, and discard the bottom. Dunno the details of your fuel's position. If you do business with an old-time gas station, they have a paste the put on the stick they measure their fuel...

    Heating oil

Home heating oil is number 2 diesel without road tax - and sometimes with a dye to indicate such - the engine won't care - but regulatory authorities might (but that wouldn't deter me). Main thing is to make sure its not contaminated with water. Regards, David

    tilt/rollover point

Bjorn, Do your calculations not also assume the conversion from 9.00-20 to 11.00-20, in addition to singling the tires out? I dunno of the original poster has single or duals - or their sizes - on his five ton. Regards, David
