what effect does a leaking air comp. have on the engines RPM

RE: what effect does a leaking air comp. have on the engines Compressor won't effect RPM except under really bizarre circumstances. Current variation in RPM is more likely related to engine temperature, and maybe fuel temperature. On REALLY cold days we had a few years back, on start up the...

This old gasser thing followed me home today??

Folks that have only been around Multifuel truck are always amazed at how quiet these gassers are - even with the gear noise one can actually have a conversation in the cab! David

This old gasser thing followed me home today??

RE: Re: RE: Ok Doc Well, I can tell you a couple of things - M-49531 was built as a M35 cargo truck, and not in 1952! More like mid-1959 (shoot, in 1952 Curtiss-Wright wasn't even thinking about building army trucks.) It would be intersting to know if the number embossed in the frame matches...

    Puncture

I don't think so - I've had 8 trucks with 9.00-20 tires for several years, never had a flat. The 11.00-20 on my wrecker are a whole different matter.......

    Puncture

Some can be VERY difficult - but more likely the fellows were out of practice, not dealing with these on a everyday basis. Twenty-five plus years ago I changed truck tires every day. Personnally, now I'd rather change the engine than all ten tires! Regards, David

Enough room for my axle's to slide out?

According to the U.S. Army, DOT 3 and DOT 5 are completely compatible. The only problem that the army recognizes with mixing the two is that you lose the benefit of the DOT 5. IF you're concerned about this - then after honing you could flush the cylinders with alcohol. Regards, David

    manual for m211

There are at least three operators manuals. An early US, a late US, and a Canadian - and all are different. Then of course there is the engine TM, the tranny TM, etc., etc. From the operator's standpoint, the late US is probably the best (and by far the largest) - the other operators manuals...

This old gasser thing followed me home today??

RE: Re: RE: Ok Doc Duh....disregard my request for model number, I see you included the NSN. However, 23208358468 isn't a good number, are you sure its not 23208358463 - which would be M35 w/o winch? And if that is the case - is the built date stamped on the plate as weill? It would be handy...

    Got the new truck today!

Stever, Like Kenny said, the M328 (which was built on the M139 chassis), the M821, and even a FEW six-ton Brockways use the extremely heavy bed that you have. Its for use with a MT-4 bridge (or some such designation - memory isn't as good as it once was) The M812 was designed for use with a...

Combat Garage -New show on History Channel

RE: Re: RE: Combat Garage -New show on History Channel FWIW, the produce, Rob Lihani, is a MV collector, regular guy, and hangs out on the G503 board. I suspect that info will be appearing there on when the show will be repeated, the availability of copies, and the status of the "series"...

This old gasser thing followed me home today??

RE: Ok Doc Does the data plate say it was a M35, or something else? Most water tankers look just like fuel tankers from behind. Regards, David

Combat Garage -New show on History Channel

RE: Re: RE: Combat Garage -New show on History Channel Kenny, I suspect you've known me long enough to know that I'm not being a jerk - or at least I'm not trying to be a jerk! But, as those that followed the Napster case will recall - part of copyright law provides the copyright owner the...

This old gasser thing followed me home today??

RE: one more To my tired eyes, it looks like a military hardtop - there were two versions made specifcially for the "Reo" style truck. Just curious, what does the truck data plate say for maker, model number, and serial number? Thanks, David Doyle

    Need info on sprag t-case

yes, reversing with the sprag in forward can be damaging. Don't remember if dropping the driveshaft would cause any problems - it shouldn't - although the TM should cover this in the towing section. Which reminds me, I meant to jack up a five ton for an experiment.....guess I know what I'll be...

    Engine Missing

That spring is part of a check valve - the tiny plunger that spring pushes against is precisely matched to the hydraulic head, and according to Bosch if you lose the plunger, it cannot be replaced and the hydraulic head is scrap. Regards, David

Combat Garage -New show on History Channel

RE: Re: RE: Combat Garage -New show on History Channel Jeff, I may be able to connect you with Rob Lihani - but were I you I'd sure be reluctant to mention SS - were the History Channel to check this thread and see the disregard for copyright laws with regard to this show, this could become...
