    Looking for a SPECIFIC deuce

Two or three years ago GL sold a gasser M46 2 1/2 ton with contact maintenance body (AKA Batmobile/Batwing) down in Montgomery. Do any of you know where it wound up? Best wishes, David Doyle

    2nd M135 - Is this top orginal?

The top shown in the photos at the top of this thread is genuine GI issue - they were made just down the road from me. The Memphis Equipment top is a two-piece top which utilizes a M35 top, and a custom made rear panel which makes the transistion from the square cab back of the M135 to the...

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Having never tried this - I am purely curious - but would mixing 9.00 - 20 and 11.00 - 20 on the steering axle affect the tracking/cornering?

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

The steel wheels of the V18A/MTQ are also different from the ones on the M35A2 (offset differs) - but are the same as the common M135. I've flat towed a 18000 lb deuce with a 12000 deuce a hundred miles or so - including through Memphis city traffic without incident. Biggest problem (other...

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Without looking it up - I'd venture to say the weight of the towed vehicle in this instance will be a ton or more than the towing vehicle. Remember when packing your spares that the V18 has 11.00-20 tires, not 9.00-20 like the M35A2. Once again - Congrats on a very cool truck! Regards, David...

    Sprag Clutch 5 Ton

I'll jack one of mine up in the morning to verify this. If I'm wrong, it won't be the first time - and its unlikely to be the last! Best, David

    XM757 steering

Bjorn, Find the NSN in the TM. Post it on this site - someone here likely has FedLog access and could PM you the manufacturer's name, and part number. DD

    XM757 steering

Most of these trucks were sent to Europe during the height of the cold war (some to Korea) - so my inclination would be to check with the various large European parts vendors (commercial-oriented) for these. Regards, David

Backing Up a M939 in Low Range

RE: Adjustments? Towing forward is no problem - the forward sprag is the one that is engaged. Pulling backward is the problem. If the oil in the transfer is terrible, then I'd definately flush/change it. I know of one fellow who had similar problems and filled the transfer case with diesel...

    M52 questions

RE: Air to transfer H20M139. The sprag units on your truck are not functioning properly. With no air, the forward sprag should be engaged, and the wheel should not turn backwards. The banging noise you mention hearing in the other thread are parts binding, slipping and trying to break when...

Backing Up a M939 in Low Range

RE: Backing up H2O truck......All the sounds and symptoms of sprag problem. Sounds like the sprag is not shifting properly from forward to reverse - this is confirmed by your comments in another thread. I'd verify the air valve is working properly, and if it is look toward flushing the...

    Auxilary Plug

Mark, Are you referring to the outlet on the interior of the truck? If so, a breakdown is in the ORD 9 for the 5 ton wrecker - maybe in the -20 or -30 as well (I tend to use 1950s era books rather than the later ones.) Or are you referring to the slave receptacle that is on the outside of the...

    Looking for odd deuce parts

Nope, supposedly the yard has primarily civy vehicles, wtih the remains of a telephone truck in the back near a fence. Kinda vague, huh? Any ideas? DD
