That is a Swiss truck, looks like a pretty complete and original. Bed tarp is not original, of course. Ask for the maintenance records that came with most Swiss 404's to see if the odometer is correct. Odometers on military vehicles...
Oh, and don't expect to go anywhere fast. They will do 60mph on the level if you push them, but they really don't like it. You will break things if you push the speed. They are happiest around 45-50mph. At that speed, they will run all day, even in Texas.
Cheers
Basically, what was said above. I have owned a Swiss 404 since around 2000, the only things I have replaced were rubber products, fluids, and the wood in the bed is starting to go soft. Other than that, it has been extremely reliable.
Price depends on condition and where its from, the Swiss...
Their first attempt did look something like that. Its amazing the jump they made from that first prototype to the V100. That thing is just plain well designed, with almost every part accessible. Except the **** pump for the winch, you have to lift the engine up to put that on or off, it...
Thanks for sharing that Rick. Photos/video of V's swimming is about as common as hens teeth. Makes me want to swim mine on Lake Travis, but I just don't have the....wherewithall..to do it!
Cheers
It seems on some trucks you get CTIS lights with the truck lights off, some you don't.
One of my M931's CTIS lights up when you turn on the battery switch with the headlights off. The other, and my buddy's M923, don't light up until the headlight switch is turned on.
Cheers
My front rope was tied under the bow rack, that sheet metal thing with all the slots attached to the front outside of the bed.
The rear rope is secured to the two tail-gate hooks. (See the third picture above). I tied a loop in one end of the rope, put both under the hooks, then the free end...
One other method -
Click on the pictures, and you get the big ones.
Move your cursor to somewhere around the center of the picture, it will turn from the finger into an arrow (or however your cursor is set up to change).
At that point right click, and you should get a menu that includes "View...
Welcome aboard. As TexasJR said, look up our club, lots of folks in the area and we have a good time. The Temple air show (first weekend in May) is closer to you than to me, that's a good one to go to if you don't want to travel too far! We usually have around 12-15 vehicles at that show...
Here are the bows on my M813 when it came out of the Marines. The gap in the cross rail/backrest near the front is because the seats don't go any further forward, and so you can sling the spare over the side without the rail being in the way.
The tarp looks too long at first, but when you...
I wish the top was mine, but it is a type I encountered on the web looking at Mog pictures. I have seen several trucks with that top, so I think it may have been a production one. The one on mine is as you described, no rear curtain.
My Mog is stock Swiss, the only change I made (or ever plan...
I really do enjoy a thread like this, thank you for taking so many photos and detailing the work. I'll probably never restore one of these, but I sure am vicariously enjoying yours!
Cheers
Kyle, there apparently is a version of the tarp with a rear flap, I've only seen photos of it though, and only a few. (I'm specifically talking Swiss Unimogs here, not the other European ones, which are completely different bed/tarp-wise). I'd love to get my mits on one.
I have meanwhile used...
"Governor, just WHY did you allow it to snow here? You KNOW we don't get snow! How could YOU allow this to happen??" Something like that?
In Austin, it was the police chief's fault apparently.
Cheers
I'm going to borrow one of your pictures just to really clarify what's mentioned above, those triangular flaps in the proper orientation.
I've seen MANY trucks, both on SS and in military service with the tarp on backwards!
Cheers
