Not true. The axle+wheels makes for a mass. The spring is, well, a spring. Mass-spring pairs have a natural frequency dictated by the square root of the quotient of the spring constant over mass. Without going into the physics, it is the same as a pendulum's natural frequency. That is the...
The hose clamp was over-tightened and not in the right spot, behind the barb. What I do in such cases is use a socket wrench as a dolly on the inside and carefully massage the metal to its original design with auto body hammers. Done it before, and on a former military vehicle..an M561 Gamma...
I am having vibration issue too on my 1031. Shocks are bad but this caused the springs to sag. So I am getting the springs rearched. When I measured the arch by lifting the frame until the rear wheels were off the ground, where it should have been 6.25" of arch (an a bit more with the axle...
Wow. With weight off wheels, axle hanging from springs, I measured 5-3/4" of arch. With load, the arch is 3/4" :( No wonder it is dragging tail.
Now when the rears are rearched, I bet the fronts will need it too. All new U bolts and bushings.
Found the specs, calls for a 6-1/4" arch height. This is measured off the vehicle, on a bench with a straight edge center to center on the eyes and distance from that straight edge to the top of the spring.
I am going to jack the frame to get weight off wheels and measure..
I have 3" on the right, 2-7/8" on the left. About 300 pounds of tools aft of rear axle plus the generator and compressor. I mounted the compressor above the generator to free up floor space.
I have seen re-arching done on springs, these are bolt-together so it should be possible. Just need...
The rear shocks on my 1031 have gone out, vibration at 55 MPH despite new balance of the wheels. Looking around, I noticed a lot of rust dust on the lower leaves of the springs plus the top helper springs are nearly touching fore and aft...plus it looks like the rear end is riding lower. I...
Shims on the block to pump mounting face are for gear engagement, not time. What I would do is check gear engagement with the grease paint used to set pinion-ring gear alignment and look for residual grease paint in the valleys and crests of the gears. Just bolt the pump up and turn over by...
Overdrive transmission, preferably a 4L80E using aftermarket controller. In the future..yes to the lockup torque converter and 25% OD.
Air conditioning has been my favorite. My SECM needed a rear view camera, that has saved my bumper. Civy hitch.
I'm still rocking the original fuel filter...
Throttle actuator uses variable current so if you have an issue with it, check all microswitches as they must transmit 5-10 amperes and mine were dirty, leading to the same issues with lack of actuator authority. As in frequency dropping off with heavy loads.
Yes, there is considerable spring...
Onan also went with gear reduction starters on the military MEP 002 and 003 A diesel generators. I know the gear reduction works much better.
Besides, Delco makes the starters. The 28 MT is a ball bearing armature where the 27 is a bushing. Only because the 28 spins so much faster.
The oil pressure sending unit line is like all other compression fittings on the 561, something odd and proprietary as it has coarse threads and a unique ferrule. It leaked as it has a limit to compression and the tube was compressed too much.
Cannot be any more difficult than the nuts holding a CUCV injection pump onto the timing chain cover ;)
If you need me tomorrow, the wife is working so I have a kitchen pass.
The frequency meter is a 200 microamp meter movement. When the transducer functions properly the output is 100 microamp at 60 Hz. This makes it hard to test with a voltmeter.
This is a transducer issue and probably a calibration pot that needs exercising. If the transducer has an adjustment...
The right rear mount bolt was stuck but the nut came off so that bolt gave a bit of drag on the lift out. It cleared fine.
No redesign of metal or paint, if that was your question. No shedding of blood or hurt feelings either. Lots of sweat and even more oil soaked dirt. As in 3 gallons of...
