    MEP002A Intermittant Issue

Yes. The circuit diagram on top shows connections. Low oil press override is only in start position. WD 40 won't hurt.

1958 Hobart self propelled 400 amp DC stick welder

Very cool. Or hot, if you are in the HAZ. My MEP 002A rides on a 4 wheel cart, steering too. With a 500 watt 24 volt electric motor driving a two speed transaxle for about 3 MPH top speed. The front wheels steer with a wagon type handle and steering. A simple directional control switch...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Got the springs back for the rear of my 1031. Re-arched to the correct height plus new shocks means proper ride height. I can aim the headlights, for one. But still have to install the beasts. The -34 is wrong, these are the same springs as a 1028. HEAVY..

My "new" MEP002a in South America.

No need to remove fuel pumps. Strainers can be serviced in place. The fuel tank looks very good. Just light brushing.

    MEP002A Intermittant Issue

The switch is known to go bad. It is vented to atmosphere and this lets water in, causing corrosion. So they stick or have issues at times.

New considering the M1028 as a daily driver

You want an overdrive transmission, either a manual or an automatic with lockup torque converter. Slippage in the TC heats the fluid and kills any overdrive economy gains. These are draggy trucks, even more with a lift. The 700R4 can work but you need the cable bracket, an odd thing to find...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Yuck. Still have the rear axle on the 1031 disconnected..weather moved in delaying the spring re-arching project with new shocks. Tomorrow the ground should be dry enough to pull the right spring, drag them to town for re-arching and then reinstall tomorrow. The rear bumper at the frame ends...

My "new" MEP002a in South America.

Correct on the injection pump control lever. If it is free, the plunger is also free, these two have similar clearances and will gum up at the same rate. You could put some diesel injection cleaner into the injection pump by removing the delivery valve and holder but you might have to replace...

My "new" MEP002a in South America.

1000 hours is NOTHING. This is a 70 cubic inch twin cylinder expected to produce around 10 horsepower. Now, a diesel that size can easily produce 15 horsepower at 1800 RPM so this engine is barely loaded at full generator output. Like others said, it should last at least another 8000 hours...

My "new" MEP002a in South America.

Ok, he speed control cable is not normally adjusted by the operator, it is best to leave it in position. It moves both by pushing it in to unlock and for fine adjustment, by turning the knob. Set it onc to active 60 Hz frequency and LEAVE IT ALONE. Why? The voltage regulator can be damaged...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

GTAW (TIG) is real fun. No sparks, slag or smoke. The WYSIWYG of welding. All welding is best when it is cool outside. Back to the topic at hand, I will make a pulling finger set for the 3-53, just because it will be needed by someone here. $500 tool.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Gentle? Mark had tried with a piece of 1-1/4" galvanized pipe, no luck. I used a piece of much heavier walled ERW tube, a little larger in diameter but twice the wall thickness. Even then, we cut off the mangled end contacting the liners...4 times :?. I reworked the engine support stands to...

RV hook up to a MEP-803a

An 803 is good for 52 amperes at 240 volts, 104 amps at 120. Watch out.

M1008 No Start After Spin On Filter Fuel Filter Conversion and New Injection Pump

Yes, with the stock filter, just pull a vacuum until you get fuel. No pink wire disconnect, no starter or battery abuse. The stock filter is better as it has fuel warmer, water separator, water warning and two stages of filtration. The only issue is a few o-rings which like any rubber part...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

And the Permatex Ultra Black gasket compound is still working great . It should, that is what my little turbo diesel uses, aluminum pan to cast iron block. Factory spec, although VW has their own proprietary blend, Permatex stuff is even better. This gasket joint has very little pressure.

    M1031 SECM ride height?

Pulled the left spring..didn't have to cut the u bolts. Not much corrosion at all in the bottom bracket, bolts or nuts. But fought the nuts all the way as the long bolts act as torque sticks, limiting the impact gun effectiveness. Also had power outage and didn't want To run the generator...

    M1008 shocks

Did EXACTLY that at NAPA and got the WRONG shocks. Even with the GM number.

    M1031 SECM ride height?

No, the shocks I ordered from NAPA are not correct. Paid shipping too. Waited too long, now the truck is deadlined for another week.

    M1031 SECM ride height?

Yes, that and other cutting tools. My MVPA partner in drudgery broke an oil pan bolt off in the block of his M561 Gamma Goat.. Using GTAW overhead, I lengthened the bolt by 1/2" or more and heated it in the process. Toggle lock pliers turned it easily. Steel bolt in an aluminum block. The...

    M1031 SECM ride height?

More heartache..the shocks I ordered are the correct type EXCEPT for the bushings..got to ream out the rubber and insert the old inner metal pieces. Special order, not returnable . The great news is the spring re-arching is a bargain at $80 a side. New U bolts are $4 each, with nuts and...
