another new M1009 owner with questions.

Welcome aboard and its always good to be able to enable another addict's slide into MV addiction! As stated, check the toggles at the lower left corner of the dash. The fuse block is on the fire wall left of the steering column. The layout for it is in the -20 manual. I highly recommend...

Source for amber tinted headlights? Are they even legal?

Headlights are regulated by the US DOT and, no, amber is not legal. That said, it's all in how fussy the law enforcement is in all hte areas into which you may drive and whether the guy doing you annual safety inspection picks up on it compared to your willingness to risk it. Amber lights...

Help Figuring out what kind of truck I have

That is one very highly monkeyed with M44 series truck. I'm guessing that before the "Trick My Truck" guys got a hold of it, it was an M35A2. Lance

How do I test my batteries?

A fully charged battery, with clean posts, should read 12.6 volts. Anything less indicates a weak battery. If you have access to a good voltmeter, remove the cell caps and start next to either post, connect one lead to a post and check each cell in sequence. It may take a few tries to...

    Diesel generators

Nearly all smaller generators (30 kW or smaller) have "reconnection switches" to allow you to switch a set from single to three phase. Usually the switch is under a fastened cover to keep morons from turning them while the generator is running and from turning them at all if they are not...

Are the Forums now the Classifieds?

The easy thing to say would be to state that, "It's Chris' site, so do what he wants." After all, it's not a democracy, it's a benevolent dictatorship. That said, whether someone lists a wanted, needed or offered for sale item on the open forum doesn't bother me at all. The classified...

    Chattering starter solinoid

Well, here's the update. The truck starts and runs fine. I put the used, known good starter from my parts truck in. Before I did that, I found several wires in and around the engine compartment that had been spliced with butt connectors (The darn things should be outlawed). One was the...

    Couple Questions.. Towing Related

An M813 is a lot more weight than a deuce pintle is rated for. There's lots of folks who've done stuff like this but there's nothing in this hobby worth dying for or worth killing someone else over. Lance

    East Coast Rally new date!

Yesterday, I posted a bit of a rant on the choice of the "Memorial Day Observed" weekend and deleted the thread because I'd gone overboard with a comment. It's frustrating that, for many of us, we got into this hobby due to our interest in honoring the service and sacrifice of our veterans and...

    Chattering starter solinoid

I cleaned all the connections at the bus bars, took out the starter and cleaned it's connections, cleaned both ends of the engine ground cable. The rear battery is good and shows 12.73 volts. If I drop the starter again and check power at the solenoid, am I correct in assuming that I need to...

    Chattering starter solinoid

The starter soleniod. It is enough to feel it in the whole truck. It might be masking something at the start relay but I can't tell. Lance

    Chattering starter solinoid

I tried a new AC140 relay with no change. I'll try it again when I get back. It's a lot less work and a bunch cheaper than changing the starter. Lance

    Chattering starter solinoid

Mike. I haven't dug into the wiring diagrams. There's a link or some such between the two bus bars. It seems to be in rough shape. any idea what it is? There are some wires with what appear to be links attached to the positive bus and running down from there. I haven't looked in another...

    Drain oil pan

I got a 6 gallon plastic pail from the local beer and wine making supply shop and use a 5 gallon oil bucket lid to pour it out. Lance

    Chattering starter solinoid

My M1008, which has been used several times a week and had been an easy starting truck, has had some starting issues lately. Previous to this it started up with no issues and cold weather wasn't an issue. About 3 weeks ago, the start relay died and was replaced with a spare OEM relay. Last...

Can you tell me what these parts fit?

Here's my best guess... I'm not sure enough about he first two to even offer a SWAG. The third appears to be hummdinger cargo truck bows. The shorter ones are for the first bow behind the cab. The fourth and fifth ones appear to be late model M880 folding bows or M1008 style folding bows...
