FWIW, if you haven't discovered it already, a Google search with "steelsoldiers" added as a keyword to whatever you are looking for, produces much better results than the on-site search function.
If you are concerned about damage from highcentering, add one or more skid plates.
Moving things higher will move the CG higher as well and make the truck less able to handle side slopes (as will taller tires).
More complexity = less reliability
I am in agreement with you on wanting to tinker...
Ref Isaac-1 post #3 above.
Looked at the wiring on the 10kw genset today and compared my findings to the above referenced post, no biggie, but anyway...
On the mep018a, the load connections are to L2 (not L1 as stated above), L3 and L0.
I'll post this and reread Isaac's post in case I missed...
If it's not the vent line, then one or more valves in the airpak cylinder are stuck. Just lubing it now may be too late, but it should be done at least on a yearly basis. Small plug on the back, use airtool oil or fine hydraulic fluid...
Would recommend it for use on a long trip only, where you can use it all up. I have mixed it to about 80% with diesel, but expect some difficulties (may take a couple of tries) starting if truck sits over night when the ambient temp may drop below 60 deg.
The fuel in the tank will selfheat from...
The rubber on the sidewalls, as I understand it from past research, is there to protect the underlaying cords only and will not add anything to the strength of the tire. Also, bias plies are probably more forgiving than radials.
Part number should be MS91528-1K2B.
If someone has a mep018a in any condition, as long as it's not physically damaged, I may be able to find something to trade for it...
Jessie, do a GOOGLE search and include "steelsoldiers" among the keywords and you'll get a number of hits showing previous posts on the -2 engine and the xm757.

Starting to clean up the 10kw genset and could use some parts. The "Current Selector" switch is most acute, but is there a "parts" MEP018A out there for general cannibalization (found nothing in the classifieds)? The tubular frame is badly bent on mine as well.
Yes, they were built exclusively for the 1969 m656/xm757/xm791 8x8 trucks. Very few in existence...
The air cleaner on these trucks is of a 2-stage type, where fins or vanes set up a cyclone effect on the air to separate heavier particles, which are collected in the "dust pot" shown in the...
You solder the connections (wires) to the hooks, help make a mechanical connection before soldering.
Consider having a 12-volt battery on the the trailer for all your trailer needs.
It's a good idea, after about 4 or 5 cycles of the distilled water, you'll have a 99% mix of clean water. Before the last cycle, add the right amount of glycol and water, which should be 4 gallons of glycol and 1 gal of water plus any SCA you may want (perhaps 2 pints). After the T-stat opens...
Good job saving your friend Kenny, you are a good neighbor!
Did you forget the bellhousing plug?
As stated above, check all wheel bearings and do the necessary "after fording" maintenance as is required after any dip in water or mud that goes over the wheel hubs...well you know all this. I'm...
