    Stuck- M816 electric brakes

Make sure the 24 volt is not on, should only be temporary when engaging the brake. Perhaps have someone tapping it physically as the brakes are applied? For info look for "Mico lock" (not micro).

ultimate onboard fuel filtration / processing setup

Right, the reason for the separate filtration systems is to be able to eliminate a whole lot of variables from the equation when you are on the road and experience a fuel problem. Simply "flushing" the WVO out after use still leaves a bunch of unwanted stuff stuck in the filters, which will...

    Installing a Winch.

I agree with you, as a matter of fact, properly torqued, there is no need for any other "locking" device, lock washer, nylock or self locking nut, the assembly with stay together by the tension in the cap screw. All surfaces must be clean, though.

    Deuce winch cable question

If you are referring to the bolt marked off in the image below, nothing will happen to the cable, it's made to let you switch from the chain/hook to shackles etc.

ultimate onboard fuel filtration / processing setup

A couple of things Jesse, the fuel burning coolant heater must be located below the coolant mass it's heating to work properly. It works by convection so the heated coolant must be able to rise. When hooked up to the engine, it is mounted below it and the coolant flows from the bottom to the...

    tatra 813 new owner

Thanks for the update, Duncan, learning a lot about the Tatra from your posts. I end up doing a lot of those same kind of projects due to limited funds, Take something apart and end up spending a lot on small parts anyway....no way around it. :-)

    Installing a Winch.

Thanks for the info Eric, didn't do any research, just went by experience (limited?).

    Improved safety with an 8x8

So Jason, was that tire mounted on a deuce rim with an innertube? That blow-out looks very different compared to the one I had (pictured above). Mine was tubeless on proper size rim and also a radial tire. Looks like it let go along the rim...wheel not matched with the tire.

    Installing a Winch.

"Grade 8 fine thread with nylock nuts" reads like an odd combination. Are you sure that those nylock nuts are grade 8? If not, the threads will be stripped out when torqued to spec. I would use selflocking grade 8 nuts with those screws. Just a humble observation... Don't think I have ever seen...

What does your "mechanical bead breaker" look like?

    Improved safety with an 8x8

Done a bit of searching, but can't find anything on the effect of a front tire blow-out on an 8x8 compared to the, possibly, disastrous effect of a blown front tire on a single front axle truck. Has the Army done any studies on this (HEMTT, for example)? My own limited experience comes from the...

    Updating the PS install

Did a cursory google search and came up with this: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce-modification-hot-rodding/15916-power-steering-deuce-3.html Comparing the strength of a single forged piece with a welded piece is not easy IMHO.

    4a084 air intake mods

A heat shield is a good idea, but the intake is still only inches away from the hot exhaust. A filter canister with the intake on top would be nice...

    Battery charging question?

The trick is to add a little something each time a question is repeated, so that the subject is allowed to expand. Otherwise, this will turn into a very boring forum with nothing but references to old threads and/or TMs, IMHO.

    4a084 air intake mods

Because of the mounting of the MEP018 on the 8x8, I have modified the exhaust/muffler so that it exits over the side of the truck. An unfortunate consequence of this is that the air intake temp is now 150°F on an average. The intake will have to be routed to another area away from the muffler...

    Battery charging question?

As stated above a bad cell or sulfated batteries may be your problem. Image below from the PS magazine section, which has its own search function if you are looking for something specific... Edit (about misreading instruments): The electrical gauges on the dash are grounded via the 1/4-turn...

    Deuce exhaust brake details

Regarding Williams vs Pacbrake, N.C. Williams patented the exhaust brake back in '57 (#2805656), but patents expire and in general, anybody can copy the idea after 17 years after the issue date. Trademarks/names have indefinite lifetimes, though since they can be renewed by the "owner".
