In looking at the fuse mod in my genset it appears to be done exactly per TB 11-6115-741-24 chapter 5.2.
According to the TB all MEP-802,812,803 & 813's get the fuse mod during the Tier 1 & 2 resets which explains why newer gensets would not have have the fuse mod yet.
Adding the MOV across the...
It's a 1994 and came with the quad winding fuse mod already installed in it.
I respecfully have to disagree. MOV's conduct in the presence of both voltage transients and steady state voltages.
I believe you may have misunderstood where the MOV would be in the circuit. By having the MOV...
I did some peak voltage readings with a digital scope on the quad circuit of my 802A (regulator pins 7 & 8 )during cranking and running.
The worst case peak AC voltage was ~90 VAC just as it started to run and the quad voltage settled to ~70 VAC while running.
I plan on installing the MOV...
Regarding the Fuse Mod...
Here is a link to TB 11-6115-741-24 that has the original info on the Fuse Mod, Generator Tier Resets etc.

A bit more information after looking into this. The fuse mod is done to protect the generator head...
My 802 had the petcock drain ripped off the radiator. Nothing left but a hole the size of a dime in the brass side tank.
I closed up the hole by soldering a clean penny over the hole.
I just wire brushed the brass so it was bright as well as the penny.
Used a big Weller soldering gun to tin the...
Thank you all for looking at your gen sets.
After digging thru TM9-6115-641-24P I found that they used two different Ground Fault Interruptors when they built the 802's.
Page 32 Figure 8 shows the GFI item 11 in detail B with a fuse holder. The following page listing the parts indicates that...
Got my 802A running today :-)
I plugged in a 1,000 watt heater into the outlet and within a couple of seconds the heater stopped.
No power at the outlet.
According to the schematic CB3 controls the power to the out. I looked all around the control box and no CB3 to be found.
What I did find...
I followed a lot of the pointers others gave here about closely looking at the pictures for hints of problems, scavaging, incomplete repairs, exhaust flap etc.
I won a unit during the 3/17 auction at Ft Meade. Drove down & picked it up on 3/24.
Engine was dry with no water in the cylinders...
Bought my first MEP-802A and picked it up at Ft Meade on 3/24/14.
I dealt with both Dan and John there with arranging a pickup date/time and the actual pick up of the genset.
Both guys were very pleasant and helpful. :-D
Upon arrival I checked in with John, he had the paperwork all ready and...
