I do not know the definitive answer, no doubt a 'sparky' will chip in. But like most things that run, and generate power, or power equipment, It might be very necessary to " shut off and run" OR Isolate 'something OR SOMEONE' pronto in one swift (and easy) movement.
that "fly right" "fly left" can be (probably was!) very disconcerting..and is usually caused by TIGHT components somewhere in your steering 'system'. CHECK for binding or Wear. IF your steering box gearing is at fault it will "remember" a position and wander from 'high' tight spot to 'high'...
That would seem a lot to fork out for 'decorative' box. (and) perhaps the inside pieces are hopefully present. Good for decorating a signals truck I would think.
