Changing out the coolant on the NHC250

Dude, if you have the tools and can time it WHY would you take it to a shop to set the overhead? And it is Cummins. Cummings, she was a **** star, Carol Cummings. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0191860/

M939 Jake Brake and Allison Questions

None of the switches/wiring are there, you need to buy, install and wire it. The brakes you have are likely 12 volt, switches don't matter, but you will need to buy 24vdc solenoids for the brakes. I can scan a foot pedal diagram for you later tonite.

M939 Jake Brake and Allison Questions

Here.... Oh yeah, the part numbers for the switch is...Jacobs, 003951 and Cummins, 3871305. OR a 100 PSI, NO switch. Allison never said the use of the off the shelf, generic switch was OK to use, but we used them all the time, sorry, do not have a generic p/n for one, it has been WAY too long...

M939 Jake Brake and Allison Questions

Easy peasy, wire it from keyed B+ source to the pump switch, out of the pump switch to the Allison pressure switch installed in the lock up port on the trans body, IIRC, Jake sells one too, I will see if I can dig up the p/n, to the 3 position switch and from there to the brake housings. I have...

Changing out the coolant on the NHC250

ELC is bad juju for old engines. Rubber parts WILL be compromised. Stick with a low silicate, normal glycol antifreeze.

    Catastrophic Failures

I forgot about this, I have a boat load more pics. Leme see if I can dig some up.

    M923 engine noise

There is no need to time the compressor. If you pull the accessory drive, now that requires to be put in time of sorts. There wil be no performance issues but if/when you set the overhead, it will be wrong.

    Passenger side tire cupping

You all also need to remember, once tires start wearing in one manner, the wear will continue in that manner even if the issue is repaired unless new rubber is installed.

1991 M923A2, Cummins 8.3 higher than usual oil pressure, and oil leak question

Oil filter will not cause higher that "normal" oil pressure. As Simp said, verify the gauge first. Next will be the pressure regulator in the oil cooler housing, it is probably scored and sticking, could be from the high coolant temp issue, the housing is aluminum and the plunger is steel. Just...

    Need help diagnosing a miss

If you don't have anIR gun, use a spray bottle and water. Cold start idling, spray each port at the manifold, watch to see which one(s) do not dry or are slow to dry, it is normal for 1 and 6 to be the last to dry, but they usually do about the same time. the one(s) that don't dry up are your...

    Cummins 2.8 Repower ??

The engine will be made to HAVE all the crap on the back of it, no way around it unless someone comes up with a hack calibration. You will be able to run it w/o the stuff until the system sees no aftertreatment, then you get 1000 RPM/5 mph

    M925a2 Power Surge

ECM Should be GTG for 24v. You will need another lift pump. No Carter pump, it is a piston type and mounted behind the ECM....change it BEFORE you install the engine!

    M934a2 sluggish low rpm performance

Get a second body. Use a socket, extension and a breaker bar to hold the turbo shaft from spinning, start the engine, use starting fluid LIGHTLY at all of the intake joints, the aftercooler inlet and outlet, crossover hoses, etc. If there is a leak to atmosphere, the starting fluid will find it...

    M925a2 Power Surge

The engine you will be getting has a lift pump on it, if it is common rail, that's something I forgot about that will need to be trade out for a 24v one. The pump stops running after a few mins and the gear pump on the back of the HP pump does all of the work after that.

    DFW M923 mechanic needed

Air it up and get out the spray bottle with soapy water. Why pay someone for possibly an easy fix. How slow is the leak?

    M925a2 Power Surge

The pressure filter on the engine will be fine, just make sure you install a good rock catcher filter. And stay with Fleetguard filters. And, I think you can go to 450 HP with that engine.

    M925a2 Power Surge

I remember the old 1710s running on NG and being used for cogen to heat the water in hotels. There are a couple of different types of NG fired engines, CNG and LNG. CNG is vapor, LNG is in a liquid form at like -200 degrees in the tank and is then converted to vapor to run. Wectport/Cummins...

    M925a2 Power Surge

There is a 12L made too. These actually work very good. Rated at 400-450 hp. They will pull down to 1200 RPM and chug along all day. Swift and a few other OTR companies use them, very little issues with them
