There are several generator platform construction threads over on the Smokstak generator board on the Onan section. I recall one with someone mounting a a DJB (same engine as MEP-002a) in a platform about 6 ft off the ground at their camp in the Louisiana swamps.
Here is the front of mine from the GL listing photo, it has not changed much since last year, just more dust on it at the moment (and the side cover plate for my MEP-002a power box). I need to make up some labels for the switch positions, in fact I was going to do that last night then found the...
I own an H82, bought from GL last January, and overall it seems to work well for my shop heating needs, but I was wondering a bit about the differences between these three models and what light you might shed on their history. I know they are all very similar, and were all build by Engineered...
The title says it all, does anyone know off hand what the center on center hole spacing is for the fork lift slots on a MEP-002a / MEP-003a? I am about 50 miles away from mine at the moment, and will not get a chance to measure them until Saturday.
thanks
This topic comes up from time to time and the vast majority of us use a quality 15W40 diesel oil, even though it is not what is specified by the TM as oil formulations have changed considerably in the last 40 years since the TM was written.
Type 2's are not necessarily newer than Type 1's, my MEP-002a came with a Type 1 that was likely installed in 2008 and is new enough to have a Southern Automotives web address label on it.
Do you have the specs on the motor you are wanting to start, does it start direct on line, or does it have some type of soft start system, etc? When you get into motors in this size range there are a lot of variables.
My concern is that this ebay seller seems to be the only source for this part, and who knows how many they have on hand or how long they will be available. I forget the exact issue with the threaded holes, it has been a couple of years, but I seem to remember issue with it binding when...
There is a ebay seller for now that has the new style MEP-016B charging regulator, you can look it up on ebay by the NSN 2920-01-282-8522 as it is poorly listed. The original is in also potted in a cast aluminum heat sink with fins, the new one looks very different in a machined aluminum heat...
I have often read of members buying these generators without batteries then jump starting them and removing the cables, as to the reason there is demand for these is the insane pricing the typical replacements sell for often $150+ for a beat up used regulator and $250+ for new, or at least "like...
My understanding of the dangers is that it can damage the regulator or the output stator if the regulator goes out since it is a shunt style regulator and a permanent magnet alternator, but this is going from memory
You say you swapped timing buttons from the old pump, does the new one have the same port closing dimensions, and are you sure your original pump had the correct button installed?
I would not worry too much about the guard, it will just get dinged again, that is just the nature of fork lifts. In another note, a lot of places have started painting their forks bright colors for anti trip safety, neon pink seems to be popular since yellow, red, etc. is already commonly...
Many people like aircraft spruce and specialty, if not them you might try aftermark.net both seem to have fairly prices on Gold Flo pumps and filters, so you may have to comparison shop, just make sure you don't get a model with a postive fuel cut off as those don't work when installed in...
