    M939 air filter mod

Here is what I know. The extended tube at the end of a filter can is usually there as a stop. The excluder, the little rubber thing that looks like a set of lips...sometimes referred to in my part of the world as a dust pussy, located on the bottom of the filter housing facing down is there to...

    Blow by

This is normal CC pressure. This is from a 2009, 400 hp 15L ISX with 600k on it. I did not get a pic of the smoke coming out of the tool, kinda hard to get it when the truck is in motion, but I will try the next time I do a blow-by check. The smoke is visible and, since it is measured out of an...

For your viewing pleasure.. This engine has a cracked piston. The CC pressure is very high, wouldn't want to even try hooking a monometer to it, it would blow the fluid out of it if it were a mechanical one and if a transducer type of tool was used, it would be beyond the measuring capabilities...

    1700 rpm max

Check the fuel shut off sol. to make sure it isn't broken and holding the sd lever 1/2 way open/closed, maybe fuel pressure, check it, should be upwards of 20 at idle and 30 -35 at high idle.

wont ldle and low power and black smoke

Is it still smoking black? And, BTW, air in the system will not cause black smoke and the bosch pump is self bleeding. no need to open any part of the system. Just crank it with the throttle depressed.

    Blow by

No moisture involved, IF there is, there are bigger issues. You can't, in 99% of most cases, tell how much blow-by an engine has just by looking at the smoke out the breather, unless the tube is whipping around like an air hose with no end on it, whistling or has a very forceful stream of smoke...

    Stencilling Trick

This stuff works good too. 3m Repositioning Adhesive U-Line makes some similar to the above

How do they know? Did they put a manometer on it and load it?

    Coolant filter setup

It doesn't need a "filter" it really isn't. It is a corrosion inhibitor. Keep you coolant up to par and you won't need it. The C series is not as prone to pitting liners as is the NHC. It is just another leak path.

All the p/n's are in the above attached PDF. Print it and take it to a Cummins dealer/distributor.

    M123 parts help

Out of all the manuals the Museum has, we do not have any parts books for the 10 ton variants. A filter change is in order on the M123 at the Museum and I cannot for the life of me find filter part numbers. There are 5 of them. 3 under the drivers step, one of which is an A/C cartridge, i think...

Symptoms of a failing lift pump?

The PT pump works or it doesn't. On normal automotive PT systems there is an AFC part of the pump. It controls fuel delivery on acceleration by limiting rail pressure with manifold pressure no manifold pressure, rail is limited to 50-60 psi max, as the manifold pressure increases, a plunger is...

Symptoms of a failing lift pump?

1983 would make it an NHC, correct? No lift pump on those.

    M923A2 Unknown Sound

I'll put this up here so anyone else that needs parts can get numbers to point them the right direction. The capscrews, or bolts, are not special, it lists the size in the note field. The washers ARE special, so they should be ordered from Cummins.

    M923A2 Unknown Sound

Nope. It is the gear train. Absolutely normal to hear that when the screw on cover for access to the f/p shaft nut is not in place. Install the cap and you won't hear it any more.

    NHC 250 No start-fuel problem

Dig the piece that is wedged under the gasket out, you should be fine.

    NHC 250 No start-fuel problem

The hard part of doing this on the truck, like has been done here, is the weight alignment onto the tang on the governor plunger. It is tough enough doing on a bench. Honestly, this type of repair should be left to a shop, it's a simple, inexpensive repair, but the possible outcome is not worth...
