I agree. Also drain your transmission oil, this will give you a better look at the internals of your transmission with the top cover off, and also look for metal particles in the oil.
Yes I agree. Replace the little short hoses that go from the water pump to oil cooler 2, & water pump to thermostat housing 1. They can get overlooked, but they can go bad and leak just like the larger hoses.
We had some tugs similar to yours years ago at Douglas Aircraft. They had gas V-8 engines converted to run on propane, and usually towed mercury carts or aircraft parts dolly's. Your son looks like he's good with a cutting torch.
