Ground hopping my LDS - starter hookup issue Almost there... - want to hook up the tranny as well to test as a unit - front engine mount and radiator mounted (no fan) - will fill with water and Cascade for first run - John Deere break-in oil 10W-30 standing by Jumping the starter - here is...

    M35a3 overcharging

Can you show us how the alternator is wired up to the truck? The alternator has a sensing input that tells the regulator how much charge current is required. Others will chime in but usually it is the wire going to the "S" post on the alternator. A new out-of-the-box alternator overcharging may...

    M108 deuce wrecker engine swap

Beware of roaming redneck farmers....they see something like that and have the urge to cut the frame off and make it into something they can pull behind a tractor!!

    Valence's M66 Gun Ring

I hope the powder coating came out the way you wanted. I am with you on the frustration when outsourced work that you have to pay for does not happen as planned! At least you know that you have sufficient paint thickness on the hard top! :-)

    My new M109

Have you had any luck adjusting the linkage for the transfer case (high/low)? There are new/rebuilt/good takeout air shift transfer cases out there. If adjusting the linkage does not give you low range, I suggest you source a replacement TC. If you are eager, you can later rebuild yours as a...

    No start after sitting.

If you have to, the best way is with a buddy. One person in the cab, cranking her over, the other giving a puff of ether into the air intake. I would take the intake mushroom and air filter off and spray directly into the engine intake. Ether must be used with the engine cranking so that all...

    Brake lights not working

With the light switch set to power the lights, does connecting the two wires at the switch result in the lights coming on? If not, you may have a wiring issue. You did check the lightbulbs?

Test running multi outside of truck - suggestions?

Yes....I pulled engine and tranny (with PTO) as a unit and learned the hard way that the transmission cover HAS to be taken off and that the PTO in combination with the winch still on the truck creates a PITA situation to lift the combo out. There is still some damage in the engine compartment I...

Test running multi outside of truck - suggestions?

New rod and main bearings, new piston rings (my engine has the new style LDS pistons that take 3 rings; I know there is some confusion going on about these rings not fitting the conventional LDS pistons), new heads (new style) and new head gasket. Cleaning everything in the process. Nothing...

Test running multi outside of truck - suggestions?

Good point. If I do it on the trailer (I like that idea), and use the 2.5t front mounts with the rad bracket, then I can also install the factory radiator and that should take care of the cooling issue.

Test running multi outside of truck - suggestions?

Rebuilt LDS is almost done; just putting the flywheel and clutch on. I don"t think I am brave enough to just put the engine into the truck and keep my fingers crossed that she will run and run right. I'd like to try her out before I go through the pain of lifting everthyng in. My plan is to...

Failing Front Pinion Bearing, Spring Inspection Results

You can never say "I'm done with my truck!". You are never done. All you can say is "I fixed some stuff on my truck today!"

All Deuced-Up and Ready to Go: Looking to Single Out

Yes, about 43 inches tall and the "correct" descriptor is 11.00R20. I singled my truck out and then ran the stock 9.00R20 until I could afford to upgrade. I hated the look...the tires are too small. 11.00R20 look ok, IMHO. Wider would be even better.

Spicer 3053A guts in 3052 housing

I have my transmission on the bench to prepare for M-35 tom's overdrive kit. I cleaned layers of paint off the data plate and found this: The dataplate says "3052" as transmission type, which would be the tranny behind a gas engine. The shift pattern is definitely multifuel, so is the shift...

    Fuel leak woes

For what it is worth, my truck had brass inserts in only about 50% of the hose ends. What this means is that when you tighten down on the fitting to stop a leak, the hose gets cut into, making the leak worse. So, when there is a leak, take the fitting apart and check for a ferrule! If there is...

    Hand Crank Deuce

They did....a VW Beetle engine. The hand crank start was the fall-back.

    Hand Crank Deuce

Yes, old thread....you may also want to look at the hand crank start of a WWII German TIGER tank. The engine is a V12 Maybach HL230 out of a Tiger II - 23 L displacement (1400 ci). They used a hand-cranked flywheel that was brought up to speed and then clutched to the engine to turn it over...
