I had the same problem trouble shooting a voltage problem and someone posted a diagram of the terminal layout, it is not logical to me. I will try to find a link and update this reply.

ps, note diagram is upside down when viewed from the access panel
here is the link...
The valve cover gaskets on these can generally be reused with no need to replace to check valve clearance, still it is good to have a spare just in case. I too would test the injectors before looking at the pump as a possible issue
Ike
The throttling issue sounds like you may have a timing problem with the injection pump or a problem with the diesel injectors.

p.s. I suspect a lot of people will be upgrading to Jim's digital gauges soon, so there may soon be people selling working used load meter gauges
sorry don't know...
On the safety of backfeeding:
As I see it there are 2 big safety issues with the common dryer plug method:
1, the plug itself if live when the generator is running and it is a non-locking plug, meaning those prongs are live if anyone were to unplug it while the generator is running.
2, There...
Q2 is the a transistor that is part of the voltage regualtor box, should be easy to spot in the TM. Generally ebay is a good source for these parts, but the transistor can also be bought from my electronics mailorder shops like Mouser, Digikey, Newark, etc.
There are not that many common weak points on the MEP-016b, having a spare DC battery charging regulator might be nice as these are somewhat failure prone (voltage goes high and cooks the battery), but they are rather expensive at around $100 when you can find them. Having a spare Q2...
With this portable setup I could draw up to 4800 watts on the MEP-002a plus I could always plug into the front panel outlet for a few extra amps if needed, close enough to the rated output for my purposes, particularly if it was loaned out to someone with poor understanding of load management...
I like to keep my MEP-002a rigged to be somewhat portable in case I need to loan it out to relatives during an extended outages, etc. Therefore I have a 120/240 L14-30 twistlock pigtail hooked to the output lugs, and a have a 30 amp 25 ft long drop cord with 4 20 amp push breaker protected...
The MEP-016D Yanmar L70 conversions generally have the electric starter, but do not have a regulated charging system or onboard battery, they are designed to be jump started over the slave connector port. If wired correctly the unregulated output from the partial charging system powers the...
I have successfully freed up a couple of diesels that were lightly seized by filling the cylinders with a 50/50 mix of Marvel Mystery Oil and ATF then let it soak for a couple of weeks, try to turn then soak some more, repeat as needed
All of the military gasoline generators are 1960's designs and gas guzzlers, the most portable common model is the MEP-016D which is rated at 3KW (that is military 24x7 rating, more like 3.6 or 4KW civilian commercial rating) and is powered by a 3600 rpm modern Yanmar L70 diesel 1 cylinder...
There are a few attempts out there to write such things, some better than others, but none that I would call good.
One is called something like practical backup using MEP generators and is a pdf from a canadian web site, we also have wiki's here on individual popular models, there are a few...
I am the same as Jim, I don't think any of the MEP series generators have separate exciters, at least not the ones that are less than 100KW. For the most part separate exciters are things you don't find on generators less than a couple hundred KW unless they are more than 60-70 years old.
Ike...
Separately excited means that the generator exciter is a separate component from the generator alternator, in general this is going to mean the generator is VERY BIG or VERY OLD or both. Often this separate exciter would be mounted next to or at the end of the main generator and powered by a...
There were 2 different Yanmar conversions, the MEP-016D which was an gasoline powered MEP-016A or C repowered with a Yanmar L70 engine, or the MEP-016E, which was a Onan 1 cylinder MEP-016B repowered with a Yanmar L100. Overall the conversion process was a bit more complicated for the B to E...
