    New M931 owner...

Congrats Justin! Welcome to the 5-ton tractor club. :-) I have the shifter handle/guts part that goes inside the "tower" housing. I'll PM a picture later.

Understanding the cooling system in relataion to block heaters (video)

When the multifuel engine is shut down, by design, the oil will drain from the filter canisters and the oil cooler into the oil pan. The reason for this is to be able to heat all the oil by warming the oil pan (using the fuel burning coolant heater exhaust). The fuel burning coolant heater also...

    M939/A1/A2 ABS vs. Non-ABS Trucks

At least that design compromise came with a warning...(unlike the panic brake-engine-stall problem)...

    Fuel burning heater smoke

There should never be smoke in the fresh (hot) air stream. If it occurs, then the combustion chamber seal is faulty. The Benmar heater seal is prone to leak, being made of a fiberglass material, but the SW heater uses a silicone rubber O-ring and is located in a cooler part of the chamber and is...

    M939/A1/A2 ABS vs. Non-ABS Trucks

Started to look through the PS magazines I have and found this, not directly related, but another possible "problem" with the drive train...

    Need electrical help!

Welcome to the site! One of the resources often overlooked is the PS Magazine section still on our old site, with lots of info, go to it and search for "cucv" or check under the "electrical" heading. Steel Soldiers :: Military Vehicles Supersite

    Aircraft Insulation in the Deuce?

Hmm... anyway, here is a view of the "textured" surface Tom mentioned. This piece is in excellent condition and I think the air gap is intentional, since very little if any trace of the foam remains. I'll do more research on this, but give the engineers at Ford the benefit of the doubt. This...

    Aircraft Insulation in the Deuce?

Don't think so, an air space is often used for sound proofing, windows, for example and the remaining ridges are very uniform. Ford put a lot of thinking into this vehicle. Edit: Also, the material you used, is an excellent thermal insulator, here they wanted sound proofing primarily.

    Aircraft Insulation in the Deuce?

The solution to sound proofing found on the m656/xm757 series, where you ride next to the engine, was a material supported by ridges to create an air space. Works pretty well actually.

Looking for Alcohol Evaporator Kit for M35A2

The original vaporizer system appears to work well, was original equipment on the m656/xm757 series (1969). I have had mine for years and it consumes about a pint of alcohol every 1,000 miles. The CFM of the compressor is about 7...

    M939/A1/A2 ABS vs. Non-ABS Trucks

The adjustments of the linkages shown in my post above are apparently critical and do in fact effect the lock-up release.

    M939/A1/A2 ABS vs. Non-ABS Trucks

No there is no communication between the brake system and the transmission on the xm757 (linkages shown in image below). All six gears lock up, but only when the rpm is high enough (=governor pressure?), so perhaps a combination of throttle position and pressure in my xm757 case? The xm757...

    M939/A1/A2 ABS vs. Non-ABS Trucks

Right, the question still remains; why does the engine stall? A delay in the transmission lock-up release? Is the driver braking with his/her left foot?

M656 triangular o-ring between tire and wheel

Hmmm...what purpose does the O-ring serve? Is it to make up for the wider rim? The m656/xm757 use 12-inch rims and the spec for the XML tire here suggests a 10-inch rim. The original 16/70-20 tires fit snuggly against the inside edges of the wheel. (This tire is not likely a military install...

Looking for Alcohol Evaporator Kit for M35A2

There is no pressure (120psi) requirement for the evaporator used on the deuce. If you have the bracket, a regular 2-pint glass "Ball" jar screws right in.
