    Of Speedometers and Transmission Vents...

A couple of things, the speedometer cable comes from the adapter on the transfer case, not the transmission and the breather on the transmission is important, but there may a leak around the shift lever to consider also. If you prepare for fording, the shift lever boot must be tight or the...

    M35A2 Fuel Pump Fuse Location

Welcome to the site! You may enjoy browsing the PS magazine section (pictures of the fuse in question). Steel Soldiers :: Military Vehicles Supersite

    Split Brakes

If it was me designing this "upgrade", I'd look at the reliability of the current system and compare it to the more complex one. By doubling the number of components, the probability of failure is also increased by a factor of two. You have to make sure that a failure that could occur in the...

    Cruising speed and rpm?

The 900-20 and the 1100-20 tires are both 100% aspect ratio tires, so take it from there.

    Starter

I agree with stumps and will add that the starter relay does not have any spark (inductive "kick") suppression and sooner or later the contacts on starter switch will go bad due to arcing. To prevent this, install a diode per diagram below.

    Cruising speed and rpm?

Well, my speedmeter is corrected for the larger tires with the appropriate adapter (on the transfer case).

    deuce reverse light

I think you should separate "backup lights" from "flood" or "work" lights. A backup light doesn't have to be 100W, but a work light may be nice at that wattage. Incandescent lights don't care about plus or minus, just wire them in series, problem is, if one fails, both go out.

    Cruising speed and rpm?

    That's my "heads up display".:-)

    Deuce wipers

Don't forget the manual override with the air powered units. I too like the air powered ones, which also can be had with "Park", if the Sprague brand "Air push" motors are used (m656/xm757 ca 1969).

    Fuel burning heater calibration

One adjustment screw for the Stewart Warner. It sets both, by adjusting the pressure regulating diaphragm common for both solenoid valves. If "LO" is within range, so should the "HI" be. The Benmar has two diaphragms and two adjusting screws are placed so that one screw driver turns both at the...

    Cruising speed and rpm?

Careful about overevving these engines. This image shows fairly accurately speed vs rpm with 1100 tires. Figure about 8% less speed with 900s. (Yeah, it's running a bit warm here, but I was pushing it and with the semi-permanent radiator cover...)

    Hydraulic head timing

To check the timing, you need to watch the marked gear teeth, visible in the "windows" on the IP (image below). They must line up with the timing mark on the damper. The crankshaft makes two turns for every one turn of the IP drive shaft. Didn't you have the marked tooth aligned in the...

    deuce reverse light

Required or not, a back-up light is a useful thing if you actually drive your truck. Not hard to install, a "microswitch", wiring and the light fixture.....have it on the deuce and the 8x8.

    Fuel burning heater calibration

I'm showing a simplified fuel calibration procedure here. In earlier posts I have had the fuel control valve removed for calibration, which may not always be so easy. Attach an extension to the outlet of the control valve (instead of the connection to the combustion chamber), which you will run...

    Moderators/Search Function?

Using the bolean "AND" has the same effect as a simple space between the key words on my computer.... Too bad we can't get a link in the "Resources" section to the old site PS Magazines...lots of info that can be searched there (including CUCV stuff), but not included in the search on the main...

    Coolant Filter Install on M939A2

Yes, that's right. You can also flush by repeatedly filling the coolant system and using compressed air at some low pressure, say 10 psi, to force the water out.

    M35A2 vs FMTV videos

If you remove the comfort, safety, armor plating, push buttons, microcomputers and diagnostic systems from any new MV, you are pretty much back to where you were 50 years ago... In one description of my 8x8, which was designed from scratch to mil spec in the sixties, they brag about a lap seat...
