Hey EZ, check ebay you may find what you need there, I did for my shifter boot, for a fraction of "new" cost. OPEL GT INNER TIE ROD, NEW, RUBBER ,BOOT/BELLOWS KIT:eBay Motors (item 140286990273 end time Oct-31-09 07:29:23 PDT) Which reminds me, I'll need a few odd sized boots too, unique to my...

    XM757 progress

Ran some temperature tests today. Results in the image below. It looks like neoprene type ducting ("CAT") will be fine at the defroster end of the fiberglass duct. The highest temp noted at the heater discharge end, was 298 degrees before it stabilized (I started in "HI" and switched to "LO"...

Axle Vents: Clean? Replace? Relocate? OTHER Vents?

Remove them and test by breathing thru them, should block one way and open with about 1/2 psi of pressure.

    XM757 progress

You are very welcome Jared! My pleasure, I always learn something by posting the "little" things, gives everybody a chance to participate. I'll be running the fuel burning heater next to see how much the temperature drops through the duct works, I'd like to be able to use black neoprene ducting...

    Deuce heater options

This is how it's supposed to be plumbed up. The heater is in a "bypass loop" to the main flow of the coolant.

    XM757 progress

Installed the engine hatch cover for the first time yesterday (takes two people to lift it on and off) after the silicone rubber gasket was epoxied in place. It's a far cry from opening and closing the hood on a deuce, that's for sure. The openings are for access to dip sticks etc. It's all...

    Deuce heater options

Do a little trouble shooting before changing the T-stat, it probably isn't opening as it is. 160 deg F sounds about normal for the driving you describe. Check the flow of coolant, the correct "in" and "out" connections and bleed the lines at the heater (valve on top). The heater may be rated...

Fuel burning heater wick and you

Yep, "Diesel", but will have kero in it. I think marking it "Kerosene" may draw too much attention to it, since kerosene is not for highway use....I may simply paint over the marking.... I'm currently looking for an adapter like the one on the genset jerry can, so that the fuel line can be...

Air system leaks! I want a cure

If it's the glad hand at the top left in the dwg below, it should have a vent, a build-up of pressure in this line from leaking check valves will begin to apply your brakes....

Fuel burning heater wick and you

Having taken apart a number of the SW heaters (the Benmar heaters don't use a wick), I have found that the wick has either been burnt to a crisp or been very sooty. The wick is vital to the operation of the heater, it brings the fuel into the vaporizer and I suspect that the kind of fuel used...

    fuel fired heater

You know, 52, we spoke about a heater a year ago, I still haven't put it back together, so hope you found another.

    fuel fired heater

Required fuel pressure is 3 to 15 psi. Yes, any 24vdc pump should be fine. My system runs at about 7 psi. Oh, and the pump capacity is 25gal/hr. The original pump is serviceable and has a filter built-in, so check that too... the fuel must be well filtered.

    Wet stacking after startup

Cranking the engine with or without fuel must be included in the "time to oil pressure"unless it can be shown that a lower rpm is less harmful than a higher one. Typical cranking rpm is 200 to 300 rpm. The military must have been aware of this problem because one of the improvements for the...

    Wet stacking after startup

Prelubing, OPCOM style, is the only positive way, even with the filters filled, it will take several seconds, 5 or 6 I have read....

    Wet stacking after startup

How long does it take for the bearing surfaces to be truly dry? A thin, residual oil film may be okay for low rpms, but not so good for say, above 1,000..?

    Deuce heater options

Too bad, it makes for such a great project. What kind of fuel are you using? Have you taken your heater apart yet?

    Wet stacking after startup

Sounds about "by the book" Gohot, engine should go to idle on its own, though. Read about it on the old site PS mag section. Steel Soldiers :: Military Vehicles Supersite
