I know i'm kinda harping out loud here but, bumping this up again. The show is next Sat Sept the 8 th.Looking foward to seeing everyone that can make it!!!
If memory serves, you have to add a thicker shim to increase spring pressure on the governer spring to increase your max RPMs,(I could be wrong here). Is a #10 shim thicker than a #27?It's been quite a while since I was in a PT pump.
According to the data plate,Max speed is listed as 50 mph.BUT getting there is another story!!!It takes approx 1/2 a mile to get up to speed, but being that the M816 weighs in at around 37,000 lbs that's not all that bad.Speaking from expierence at max gross weight(truck + towed load) figure it...
Just a friendly reminder to all who have Gasser M35s that have been converted to Multis and still have the early style mounts(the ones that mount to the plate on the front of the engine, not the ones that bolt directly to the side of the block). Be sure and ck the 2 bolts each side that...
Gonna bump this up again as time is getting closer, this year promises to be bigger than last year with quite a few more vehicles(hopefully). If I can arrange it the GOER will be making an appearance at this show as a static display,at any rate the 816 and the Deuce will be there.
Well, mine has grease fittings on the shaft outside the bell housing,so that's not an issue :D.And i've already pulled the inspection cover and checked the relase bearing(which i've noticed mine does not have a grease fitting by the way). The noise is definetly not a clip as it is MUCH more...
Ok,got a few questions,The trans in my 816 makes 2 distinct noises, the first is best described as a rattle near the input shaft/bell housing aera only at low idle(550 to 600 rpms)with the trans oil at operating temp.It usually accompanied by the engine bogging down while making the noise always...
BTW Gimpy, the engine does run but i'm having some injection pump problems, and since Cat pumps are $$$$ to rebuild it's not a top priority right now.But i work on it when I get bored of working on some of the other "small" trucks in the yard
Thanks for the info Bruce,I also noticed that my 816 and M35A2C also share the same markings(Not suprising since they both came from Ft Jackson)maybe I'll end up having a whole fleet from Jackson(if I don't have to sell em all in the near future).
Looks like that was a M125 cargo truck(front mounted winch),not a bad conversion job, shame they did it to a 125 as rare as they are.All in all still a good looking truck.
For all interested, pic of the Ballground M123 in it's new spot in the yard, getting ready for restoration. The GOER radiator is laying in the foreground aganist the oak tree.
Ask,and ye shall recieve,Pic 1 is the GOER next to my M816 wrecker,pic 2 is a right hand 3/4 rear view,and pic 3 is a left hand 3/4 rear view with a 10 ton 1400 X 24 ( about 51")thrown in for size reference
I agree, the 123 series dwarfs all of the other M series trucks of it's age, haven't gotten the chance to drive one yet(my 2 are still in pieces but still searching for that third truck :D )but I've been told they are quite a handful. But still looking foward to the challenge.
