Back when I was a PFC in the USA and in charge of the company's power generation equipment, call came down from on high that Category 1 combat units would have all NATO style ports, every generator had to be changed. I was busy for a few weeks performing these MWOs.
That is why some...
Interesting and apropos to my dilemma of disappearing brake fluid in the rear circuit. This happened over the weekend. Could this valve have an internal leak, causing brake fluid to move from rear circuit to front?
I traveled 240 miles in the 1031 SECM over the weekend for an MVPA event. Several things that happened include losing almost all the DOT 5 from the front of the master cylinder (unresolved) and blowing out the cap on the high pressure side of my air conditioning unit. The AC was an easy fix...
That is the isolated ground post, on the right (passenger) side, it is a must as that terminal is connected to the rear battery negative which is also the front battery positive. So yes, for original wiring, you need it.
Now, if the left alternator has it, you could swap out the left for the...
Yes, alternators are isolated ground. Alternators produce alternating current, this is changed (rectified) inside the alternator by a diode bank (6 diodes, alternators are typically 3 phase). In the Delco alternators, the diode bank is normally grounded negative to the case. In the CUCV...
The one benefit of a properly designed cool air intake would be silencing some of the intake noise. This is greatest around 55 MPH in the 4.56:1 geared trucks.
Yes, cool air helps performance because charge density but not so much on basis of temperature differential (Carnot efficiency).
Oil consumption in a diesel usually means crankcase breather issues, not rings. Other consumption paths would be valve guides but the same reason diesels don't normally burn it past the rings keeps valve guide consumption low. You see, diesels don't operate with intake manifold vacuum. This...
I've got spare stators, easy to check the two leads coming out for continuity. Should be under 20 ohms. Also, check for continuity to ground, should be infinite. Stators most often go short to ground, this reduces output.
No truer words. I recently had a starter stick in the on position. No damage but I didn't pull the starter. Turns out it was missing the stop collar and snap ring on the starter drive so it was over-shooting and causing the starter to stick. The last time, the drive broke the nose cone off...
They use the same design, it is different parts. The generators use fixed injection timing, automotive applications always have adjustable timing. Generators only vary injected quantity.
But yes, the Ambac injection pumps are of the same basic design.
Well, the value is the same on those capacitors. Is it a fitting issue? I cannot remember...
At least my digital voltmeter tests capacitors so if it doesn't need replacing, I'll just use the old ones.
Reserve capacity is the minutes the battery can support a 25 amp load with voltage above 1.75 volts/cell. For 12 Volt nominal battery, that is 10.5 volts. This IS the important characteristic for a glow plug diesel battery.
Capacity on the 20 hour, amp-hour test is a longer capacity test than...
I ordered alternator overhaul kits, seems my alternators are getting weak. Just putting the heater fan on high causes the voltmeter to drop to 24 V. Same load on the back battery does the same. Checked grounds, fusible links and connections, all are good.
CAREFUL!!! Any oil can cause a run-away diesel!! It is FUEL, without regulation. It is best done with all glowplugs but the one in the cylinder being tested OUT. It can free compression rings if they are somewhat stuck.
The only way to stop a run-away diesel is by blocking the intake air.
My guess would be stuck rings. This happens when oil is improper, engine running excessively hot, low engine oil, or late injection timing. This is an indirect injected engine so piston temperature shouldn't be an issue unless timing is off or injectors leaking.
Now, with that said, using...
When you say manual throttle, do you mean at the injector pump? Or at the governor's adjustment (knob at the control panel)? This could be a gummed up injector pump throttle linkage. This is on the side of the injector pump. When disconnected from the governor linkage, it should move freely...
Don't sweat the replacement heater core, I used one from Rock Auto with great success in the step son's 1009. Just remember to seal it well on the air side, otherwise it won't work right. Yes, the aluminum one. It is thinner but also greater fin density.
Finally a chance to test the truck out, instead of working on it!!! Step son #3 had an invite to go shooting so instead of taking the road types, I took the 1031. Plenty of room for gear plus the 205 transfer case and Dana 60 got to work. Everything was fine, just a bit of stiff maneuvering...
I'm trying to make my 1031 perfect, one thing that bothers me is the afterglow period of the glow plugs dips the voltmeter deep into the yellow so I hooked my voltmeter to the system while starting and running. Sure enough, system voltage drops into the 23 volt range when glow plugs are on and...
