    Lombardini generators

I think everyone is reading too much into this, with all the variation, mis-listings, and down right sloppy descriptions I seriously doubt would GL pull an auction because of some uncertainty of the description of an item on a web message board that does not even directly reference the item in...

    Sizing a genset?

Another follow up to that last message about fuel of choice, a lot depends on the type of outage you may expect, localized or wide spread, length of outage, etc. Around here it is mostly hurricanes which can cause wide spread long term systematic outages, for example when Rita came through in...

    New GL MEP -016D

No real tip on the reconnection switch other than potentially trying to spray some contact cleaner in it, but unless you have some special need like a 240V well pump I feel 120V single phase only is the best and safest setting to keep one of these small 3-4KW generators in as most household 240V...

    MEP-701A MEP-016b Voltage Selector/Ground Question

One can hope, my MEP-016D Yanmar conversion had a real creative mess in the control box. It "worked" or at least seemed to when I bought it which is strange enough, the hour meter read 0.4 hours, it turned out to be a 24VDC hour meter connected to the 120VAC line output tapped off one of the...

New here and have a couple questions

I think you have it the wrong way around, there should be 1 fuel water separator, then 2 fuel filters, plus 1 oil filter. The air filter will likely last for the life of the unit, they are oversized designed for extreme dust conditions, etc. Ike

New here and have a couple questions

The wiki link stopped working with the last major site redesign a few months back

    MEP-701A MEP-016b Voltage Selector/Ground Question

I would also say keep and eye on it, check the electrolyte levels in the battery and see what happens as the battery / batteries get charged.

    Spare parts

According to the -24P manuals this same output transistor is used on all 3 AVR boards commonly found in the MEP-002a and MEP-003a, those being the original boards for each, as well as when the 400 Hz MEP-112a boards are used as retrofits in the MEP-002a (which seems to be common on recent rebuilds).

    MEP-701A MEP-016b Voltage Selector/Ground Question

ETN550, thanks for clearing up the details, you work with these more than I do, although it should probably be strongly noted that some units may be wired differently. For example my MEP-701a came with the ground jumper on L2 and has no ground modification labelling, panel outlet was also wired...

    MEP-701A MEP-016b Voltage Selector/Ground Question

It may also help to visualize the meter as connected to the tie points that would become L2 and L3 if the voltage reconnection switch were set to the appropriate 3 phase voltage. Ike p.s. on the continuity issue, you would have the resistance of the windings when the generator is off, I don't...

    MEP-701A MEP-016b Voltage Selector/Ground Question

Internally this is a 12 lead generator, the voltage reconnection switch just connects these leads in various combinations for your selected voltage. There are 2 possible connection combinations that can supply 120/240V single phase, those being double delta and low zig-zag, I think the MEP-701a...

Found water in all 3 fuel filters, and the line into the IP on an -002a

I once had a diesel surplus air compressor in similar situation and was able to get it running just by purging and replacing filters, you never know until you try it.

    Spare parts

The transistor is a 2N3584 (original is JAN or JANX2N3584 which is mil spec batch tested and cost several times the price of the regular commercial product, given modern yield and quality control I don't think they are worth the extra money, cheaper to just buy extras in case you get a bad one )...

    Spare parts

If you are electronically minded get a spare output transistor for the AC voltage regulator also, it is a simple 5 minute soldering job to change it out, and should cost less than $5, this is the most common failure component on these voltage regulators. Ike

    Frequency Meter for MEP

Try giving them a call, I have bought a few things from them over the years (frequency meter, drum adapter kits, etc.) and they have always provided excellent help, even including telling me their obscure parts source for part in one of their kits when I only needed the one piece and not the...

    Balancing load between phases

DC clamp meters are handy to have, but don't work very good on small DC currents. Mine is a Fluke 337a which is about 5 years old and is the predecessor to the new 370 series.

    Balancing load between phases

I personally think this is the military being too picky in their manual, given most higher quality commercial generators in this size range are designed to tolerate 20-30% out of balance loads. Given the overall robust over built nature of these MEP generators, I suspect they would tolerate...

    Sizing a genset?

You don't tell us much about your situation so it is hard to give specific answers, so instead I will say a few general things: In a power outage any generator beats no generator If a generator is not needed for climate control (electric heat, or if your in an area situation where air...

    Mep-003 Operation in progress

I think you have a bad link there

    Ventilation question.....MEP-003A

There are a number of factors here, amount of insulation in the walls, ambient temperature (summer operation could be very different from winter) and so forth. I personally would look at installing a high volume exhaust fan and open the windows during operation, for reference I found a spec on...
