Welcome, just remember never idle these, idling is the quickest way to kill the voltage regulator. Start it, get it up to speed right away, when your done using it, let it cool down at full speed then shut down.

You are going to have a hard time finding parts, What you have is an Onan L423 engine. When Cummins bought out Onan they first renamed the engine, then killed it off some say to keep it from competing with their in house designs. There are also reports online that Cummins scraped all the parts...
As some of you know I was having trouble a while back with the voltage going high on my MEP-002a after it had been running for a few minutes. Well now that the holidays are over and while we were having a few hours of nice warm weather today before the rain hits again I decided to go trouble...
Bob, I do hope you continue to hang around and participate in the group, I think there is room for both the commercial refurbishing enterprise and the casual backyard mechanic. Hopefully this could benefit both sides.

Diesel generators do tend to get better fuel economy than gasoline units in gallons per hour for the same rated load, but also tend to have a much more linear output load than spark ignited engine powered generators, so if running at a fraction of full output diesel has advantages, particularly...
Bimota, maybe hauling a 55 gallon drum is a problem for you, but proper loading, securing and balancing in the back of even a half ton pickup truck is not rocket science. Unloading can be a little tricky if your on your own without a hoist, etc., however at least around here empty 55 gallon...
The problem with propane is resupply, you are dependant on a delivery truck, and in a major outage they will all be busy resupplying critical services.
My inlaws use propane for heat, hot water and cooking, they were unlucky with their fuel level when hurricane Rita came through (also lost part...
A bit about diesel:
It is a LOT safer to store than gasoline, as it is hard to get diesel to ignite under normal condition without vaporizing it, try dropping a lit match in a small puddle of diesel some time and see what happens. (don't try this with gasoline)
It can be stored for long...
Try checking the -24P parts manual for the MEP-016B it is a number of years newer than the MEP-016A parts manual and the bearing is likely the same. I think the generator ends are identical on all MEP-016 generators, control boxes, frames, engines, etc are of course different.
To follow up on the last suggestion, some newer digital electric meters will show information about KW draw, including things like instant draw and 5 minute average, etc. Of course there is also the old fashion meters, but they can be hard to read. Either way with it being in the winter you...
If you have all electric heat and no other source of heat in a winter outage you will need a LARGE generator. Electric heat is very inefficient, but I suspect being in WA you have very cheap electricity thanks to lots of hydro electric power.
Let me give you a comparison, I have a mid size...
Depends on how much you want to spend, and if you want to measure things like inrush current for motor starting, etc. Having said that it is hard to go wrong with Fluke.
I like my Fluke 337a, it will do anything I ever need with a clamp meter, picked it up very lightly used on ebay a couple...

I doubt the actual amp draw on the DC circuit is more than a couple of amps, perhaps someone can check this on a running unit, the rest would go to recharging the battery, if this is the case you can probably easily get away with a 5 amp charger, maybe even something smaller in the 2-3 amp...
Yeah, but I can't find any of the ones like I used on ebay closed auctions, they seem to all link to being relisted.
try going to ebay and search on Outlet Power Box, and you will find a number that are on pigtails, many are standard 15 amp plugs, but some of the heavy duty ones are 30 amps.
I wired a pair of 120V plugs in a drop box on a 20 ft pigtail to the output lugs on my MEP-016d, this gives the advantage of potentially moving the outlet box to a covered location out of the weather while the generator is in operation, I think I paid around $30 on ebay, simply removed the...
I am wondering if you have a MEP-112a (400 Hz 10KW) control box that has been retrofitted to a MEP-002a, check and see which model voltage regulator you have. I know there are some slight wiring differences between the two, and I think I remember one of those differences being in the voltage...
The older solargizer did nothing to charge batteries, the newer models combine the desulficating pulses with a small trickle charger to keep batteries topped off. I found a study online a while back showing where the army tested them on MEP-002a's or maybe MEP-003a's that showed that the newer...
