The Taiwan click-types are great. I've calibrated 5, they were within 2 percent which could be operator error.
$24 at Auto Zone. Fun stops over 500 inch pounds.
Did the mod finally tire of picking fights in retirement homes:deadhorse:? Welcome, BaconFarms. My CUCV is a former CheeseHead MV. Too bad we didn't have time to enjoy Wisconsin more on the recovery.
I can only surmise the federal supply system was quite lean in the late 1990s when this...
But you don't LEARN. If you surrender at any task fully documented and proven, you cannot reach for the stars.
Safety should never be ignored. Fortunately, correct connection of a 12 lead genset is easily verified by regular 120 volt light bulbs. If they illuminate correctly, then you have...
Yes, the neutral is ESSENTIAL for split phase twin leg 120/240 to provide 120 power.
Delta and wye are the two connection schemes common to military gen sets. Most all 3 phase sets are termed 12 lead because there are 6 independent windings in the stator, the part where the electricity comes...
Load balance is something else, don't get corn fused here, OK?
Commercial generators provide 240 through at least 3 wires, two legs and a neutral. Most have 4 wires, two legs, a neutral and a ground.
The MEP 016 series is wired to only have two legs in a series delta connection. There is no...
Funny but please don't DO IT!!! EVER!!! Something will get damaged because it will set up a voltage divider circuit, the weaker one will get more voltage, possibly 240.
I doubt 2.73 gears would make any difference in fuel mileage. It isn't much of a jump down from 3.08 in engine speed. Besides, the engine is already operating at below its peak torque with 3.08, dropping it further will do nothing.
Remember, peak torque corresponds to peak cylinder pressure...
No kidding, a 2.73. Guess that would fit the 3.08 carrier. Snow plowing with that mismatch would certainly be interesting. Guess the rears were being dragged along.
Perusing the -34 TM, I noticed this. Guess this old engine isn't too archaic. Or it is over-designed.
Roller lifters/tappets only became standard in the middle 1990s when extreme pressure additive ZDDP in oil was reduced to preserve the life of catalytic converters.
Yeah, that is a perk to helping out a fellow Steel Soldier member. He has a shop with smooth floor and air conditioning. No lift but a smooth floor beats gravel.
I've used cyclohexanone, an industrial ketone (think acetone family, like MEK only less vapor issue) to free stuck lifters. Just...
Roller tappets, really high tech in such an ancient engine:-P. With this little tidbit of information, you can feel a bit more confident to use strange brews in removing varnish, debris etc from the engine.
If this is a vehicle that may have seen prior shade tree mechanic service, you may...
You CAN jump start from a 12 volt system. But only in the case of discharged batteries and it is slow. You aren't jump starting but jump charging. I jump charged an M35A2 on my first real recovery from DRMO/GL. And did it with a VW Jetta...but it has a 140 amp alternator so it took about an...
SI regulators rarely fail at full field current which would cause high output voltage. Remember, the regulator not only assures stable voltage regardless of charge state, it also varies field current depending on engine RPM.
Alternators are most efficient at the mid span of their rated RPM...
Yes, you can use any voltmeter that fits and has correct scale. Any direct reading meter with scale from 90 to 250 volts is fine.
The frequency meter uses a transducer which outputs a variable current depending on frequency. The transducer input is a nominal 120 volts from a single stator...
Per the -23P TM, part number is TG6S-N7018-C2BT. The switch is part number 30M13004
Realize the TMs weren't published until 1992 for the -23, 1994 for the -13.
What I think happened with your vehicle is modifications to make it work because the TMs were not available. There were a few...
The machining of the gasket faces on the banjo bolt and wheel cylinder are slightly different. So if you must reuse, anneal and flip the washers. Keep them in the original position, flip each washer.
I've done this for injector to head seals which are the same material. Works great.
I had no distortion from TIG welding the holes in my tank. Yes, some are terne or tin coated, my tank was solid rust on the bottom on the inside. I restored the coating on the outside using electrical solder (60/40 tin/lead) in the heat affected zone.
Of course the inside was POR coated...
My PTO system works perfectly, the switch on the PTO has the black insulator.
There might be something else wrong with the governor which is why they kludged the throttle cable and swapped the switch.
Careful, the terminals on the voltmeter are at output voltage when running. There is no protection so don't ground them out when measuring. The other meters use transducers or transformers for the signal and are safer to measure directly.
If the voltmeter fails, use the convenience outlets...
