    Windshield wipers start themselves

Are you sure they are turned off? the air valve is opposite of righty tighty if I remember correctly... if it is off, there could be a seal in the valve that only lets go when the pressure builds up high enough, then just replace the valve

Towing a commercial trailer with an M-series 5-Ton

:ditto: I've hauled lots of stuff with my m818. Check out this thread: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/military-vehicle-road-trips/46511-got-drive-1-600-miles-1-5-miles-railroad.html You are not going anywhere fast and hills will drag you down. You can tow a civilian trailer with one. Just...

    Military Locomotives WWII to present

During the early part of the 1900s, the military/government used just about one of everytype built. Many locomotives were built for variable gauge operation- the 3 Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton RS4TC locomoives we have at the South Carolina Railroad museum, are able to go narrow (not meter narrow...

    M818 Brakes locking up

I had the exact same symptoms on my XM818- I had rebuilt the MC, and a few months later the brakes were locking up on me on the way to Charlotte for the Memorial day display. It was a mis-adjusted brake pedal. The rod was too tight and not allowing the piston to return all the way in the MC to...

    M818 fuel gage stopped working-why?

Check the grounds to the tanks- and then check the power to the gauge. Then the switch. Then if all that is good, you've got a bad gauge. Those are what's likely to fail, in the easiest to do order.

    Recovery

Hey Mindy and Shawn! Hope all goes well on your recovery! Be safe and get on the site if you have any problems! Make sure you take lots of pictures (some guys on here are picture hounds) and do a good write up of your experiance so the next group of 'newbies' can read and learn. Please don't...

    Uwharrie Food

Ok everyone, Sorry this has taken me awhile to get together- I've been busy moving into a new place. I would like to offer food service again this year, and Cabell might bring his MKT, or I will drag mine up for it's first rally. I promise I will be better prepared this year- I was rushed...

    It runs.. maybe not..

Thanks for the update. A gasser with the compressor? definitly a rare bird you have there. Thanks for taking the time to fix her up.

    5 reverse gears one forward

If you could get them to though.... Would be good for rail service. They have old single pistion inspection cars, you would kill the ignition, flip a lever to reverse the timing, then on the very last compression stroke of the engine, turn the ignition back on and it would run in reverse...

Possible to use 9.00-20 tubes for 11.00-20 tires?

I bought some brand new tubes when I replaced all the 11x20 NDTs on the XM818- Nice (I thought) heavy new rubber tubes- I've had 4 fail already, on on a steer tire with the tanker on (empty luckly) Truck didn't really go anywhere, but I had an experianced man driving, so he knew what to do. I...

    Click click BOOM!

The glowplugs don't work on the m1008 hyrail truck- I just barely mist it in the intake and crank. If I crank it for about 3-4min straight it will start without help. Something that needs to get fixed and the Doghead mod, but I hardly used the truck and the ignition switch broke the last time...

Need to ship a M923 from Hodges SC to Fort Wayne IN

JSTIER I sent you a PM- Do you have a ramp/dirt mound somewhere nearby? If I can used a standard flatbed, vs. my m172a1 lowboy (overwidth) then my costs would be cheaper. Just need to know because my quote would be cheaper if I can use a standard trailer. Let me know and I'll PM you my quote...

Anybody ever use railroad to get GL buy home

I BEG to differ! YouTube - Shaw Air Force Base Railroad BTW, that's me in the video! And the Army is purchasing lots of new locomotives and sending all the current ones to the shop for rebuild- yes a lot of bases have lost their rail access but those that still have it are busier...

    found on road dead

[/THREADTOPIC] It is a flooded railyard somewhere. Unlike a diesel locomotive, that has electric traction motors slung underneath, a steam engine could go though feet of water. You'd just have to do one **** of a PM job afterwords! I have no idea where or when this picture was taken. I've just...
