Steel Soldiers now has a few new forums, read more about it at: New Munitions Forums!

I should not hijack a thread, but it's my thread. Given your experience, do you have any suggestions for GROTE taillights that lost half of their LEDs? All worked fine; now only 50% of the LEDs illuminate (on one taillight only). Known fixes?
Also note that a gear reduction starter has been identified that fits the Multi, requiring only the enlargement of the starter mounting holes. An alternative to bear in mind if original replacement is too $$$ and repair not an option...
Another culprit could be the starter button itself. It sparks internally and self-destructs after so many cycles. Known issue. An improvement exists (from cranetruck?) that simply adds a relay; install new start button, wire start button to operate the relay and let the relay handle the "real"...
No personal experience, but people here have pulled their bed for a variety of reasons with different methods. You need to support the overhang with items of appropriate height; I believe someone used steel barrels. Chain the rear of the bed to a tree and move the truck forward. I can see a...
I think spark plug gap also. There is no other logical reason why finely dispersed carbon fuel would not ignite. Having said that, I have fussed with flame heaters on various models (mostly fire trucks and Steyr Diesels) I second the notion to go with the times and move to the ether dosing...
What do you intend to use the chains for? Traction aid for the mostly empty hobby truck, so you do not get stuck on the road on the way home? Then one set of ladder-type chains (e.g. miltary surplus), single-wheel type, is likely sufficient. Put them onto the rearmost outer wheels. No need to...
The truck having been used for some law enforcement purpose makes it appear likely that maintenance was up to par; probably better than with a casual private owner. The fact that the head gaskets were done is, IMHO, a good sign. The brakes on these trucks, regardless whether A1 or A2, are single...
You pretty much nailed the core question. It depends what you want. LDT-465 powered Multifuel M35A2's are plentiful, relatively cheap and if all you are looking for is a running truck to have fun with, it is a good choice.
A LDS-427 powered, relatively unmolested M35A1 is quite rare. It will...
Direct drop-in. No modifications needed. Loosen three slotted screws and remove headlight ring, remove existing headlights after unplugging 3 plugs for # 16, 17, 18 wires, insert LED lights and replug, replace headlight ring. Done.
Let her idle for about 5 mins before getting going and take it easy for the first few minutes. Then accelerate and listen to the engine and see if you can determine how the truck "feels". Every truck I have driven has a "sweet spot" where it seems to run with the least effort and, compared to...
You are not alone. Both my "good, tested" TruckLite LED headlights and my GROTE LED taillights are not error-free. I just bit the bullet and replaced the LED headlights because I really like them.
I have a taillight that has 50% of LEDs working. This is still brighter than the stock...
Oh, I guess you missed that on your reading excursions in the forum! ;)
M35A2C means it has the drop sides on the bed. It has nothing to do with the turbo, although later models tend to have the "D" turbo which is mechanically better but not as loud.
Do you already have the split brake system...
I know there are several threads, so I thought I'd add mine. Perhaps it helps someone with ideas.
Convoy light: Xenon strobe off an old city truck (gifted horse, mouth, don't look etc.) that runs on 12 to 28V. Free.
Mast: 2 metal fence posts from Lowe's that slide inside each other. About 15...
I would add that, given the load rating of even the 9.00-20 tires, you will find that the maximum rated weights of the truck are still supported/exceeded by the tires run as singles.
If you go to 11.00-20 or equivalent, the combined load ratings of the tires far exceed the rated weights of the...
In upgrading to the air pressure operated brake light switch I also reminded myself that I need to fix the cut off service line for the trailer connection. The air pack has a plastic (!) pipe plug in it right now.
I ran into difficulty trying to find the right fitting(s). The air brake copper...
The shop is hopefully hot tanking your rad so that any other thin parts and pin holes blow wide open and can be repaired as well. Nothing worse than getting one rad leak soldered and another one popping open right beside it the day after.
Leaving the system open for a few days is not a big...
