Regarding transfer switches vs interlock kits while both are legal in most areas it comes down to one detail:
Interlock kits make sure the breaker switches are in "safe" positions before switching power sources, but do nothing to make sure the contacts are in a safe position. In other words it...
I live about 45 - 50 miles NW of Elton, the electrical stuff is usually not too bad, most often it is the same sort of things as you likely get into with your lighting, bad grounds, broken connections, bad meters, that sort of thing. If you can use a multimeter to test for volts...
Don't feel too bad, the one I feel somewhat sorry for was the new 3 kwMEP-016d owner from last week at Ft. Polk where the GL description read 5KW MEP-002a, ended up selling for around $800.
One more thought after reading the survival blog entry:
Surplus auction generators are NOT for everyone, but if you are reasonably mechanically inclined (can change a fuel pump, or a starter, can read and follow directions for testing procedures, etc.) chances are good that you can buy one and...
There are no more EUC's on generators as of some time last year. As to the points at hand I have now bought 6 generators from GL some MEP's some Civilian standby units, 2 of them ran with only fluids, filters, and batteries, but even these had minor issues (like bad/wrong hour meter, pin hole...
The "coffee grounds" are caused by the fly weight retaining ring inside the injection pump coming apart.
You need to have the pump rebuilt or at a minimum have the flyweight retaining ring replaced.

p.s. note stanadyne pumps build after the mid 1980's use an improved rubber compound for...
I can't say anything good about Wal-Mart batteries, other than they will cover them under warranty, when I bought my Ford F-250 used in July of 2008 it came with a pair of then brand new Walmart yellow Everstart MAXX group 65 batteries with 36 month full replacement warranty (either 5 or 7 year...
The inline wired part on the fuel pump that often stops working is a filter capacitor and can be removed. Facet sells this model line both with and without filter capacitors.

The voltage you see will depend on how drained your batteries are, etc. The simplest test to see if it is charging at all vs not is check battery voltage with it running, then turn it off. If voltage is lower with it off then it is charging, at least partially. If voltage ever goes over about...
Without saying if it is safe, or not, a couple of things to keep in mind when it comes to the NEC ratings,
1, Flexible extension cords are rated lower than other equal size cords in amps because of an expectation of abuse, so it is assumed a certain percentage of the strands in the wires will...
Ouch, that is going to hurt when you find the price on replacement good throttle cables. On a side note it is good I did not end up offering to pick it up for you, my truck broke down on the way home from the airport in Alexandria this afternoon (was able to limp it into the dealership in...
Most likely it depends on what type of compressor is in the unit, if it is a scroll compressor (very common on newer air conditioner units) it will have lower LRA and therefore lower starting inrush, compared with traditional piston style hermetics. Scroll compressors started showing up in...
Only way to know is to try it, LRA and RLA are often worst case, you could try putting a good clamp meter on it and measure running load and inrush current.

p.s. how old is the air conditioner unit?
I too have a Chinese 460 clone that I have ready in place to drop into my 701a if the regulator in it fails before I get around to trouble shooting the thermal / volt drift problem. For $60 or so I find it is worth it to have on hand, a number of people have used them on MEP-016 and MEP-017...
If you need a source for Allis Chalmers parts try illiniparts.com they are very helpful, certainly worth a phone call if you need something, they have a lot of stuff that is not listed online.

I don't know if they are the same, but suspect they are. If it is then it is a bit of an oddball filter, and over the years there have been multiple contractors for it, I bought some off ebay a couple of years ago, and if memory serves they were made by Davco. I will get back to you on part...
Try Delks, Saturn Surplus and maybe Tom at Gulf coast military truck parts
I have never heard of this model though, and the military was known to buy short runs of some odd custom models prior to the MEP generator standardization program that started in the mid 1960's. Can you tell us more...
It would be possible, I would certainly try to confirm that it really is a 60 hz unit by putting a good meter on it while running. People have been known to try to pass off 400 hz paper weights as 60hz generators by removing the 400 hz meter on the panel and replacing it with a 60 hz meter...
