    MEP-016 SX460 AVR shuffle?

Well tonight it looks like the AVR on my MEP-701a finally died, it has been maxing out with low in hot weather for a while, and during the short power outage at the house tonight it has decided to add a new symptom, very slow voltage swing from about 95-120VAC. Here is my plan, please let me...

new guy with a mep 005a

I think you would get higher dollars on ebay if you fixed up the trailer with some fenders, maybe outrigger legs, and painted the whole thing a more neutral color, there is a reason most of the commercial units out there today are some shade of tan. Ike

I assume your .66 GPH is for something around half load?

    MEP-003A hook up question

In general you always want to use stranded copper when connecting to generators, motors, etc. due to vibration, MTW (Machine Tool Wire) rated wire is best, as it has finer strands than regular stranded and holds up to vibration better, SO (SOOW,SOEW, SJOW, etc.) cord is another good choice...

To bid or to buy, that is the genset question.

The central air conditioner is going to be the limiting issue, the information from the data plate with LRA and RLA is a start, but those numbers are worst case. To get a better idea of what your air conditioner unit really draws, put a good clamp meter on it on a hot day and see what the...

Running problem with 4 cylinder White on MEP-004A MEP0013A Generator

    Sounds like the injection pump.

    MEP004 Lugs

The power companies usual distribute 3 phase to the sub stations, then for residential areas they run 3 lines from each substation one for each phase. Ike

    Voltage selector switch for 1031?

There are generally 2 systems for numbering the leads of 12 lead reconnectable generators the American T system and the European W system. I strongly suspect that a modern Marathon head would use the T system since they are currently owned by Cummins which also owns Onan. Ike p.s. any 12 lead...

    Mep-002 new owner

That is great news, the MEP-016d likely sounds louder because it is at a higher pitch, they are both loud, I plan on working on mine some this weekend also. I have a sound level meter and will try to compare them side by side (if I can find it). Ike

Running problem with 4 cylinder White on MEP-004A MEP0013A Generator

Check the return fuel line fitting for flow while it runs. I think these have Stanadyne DB series injection pumps, which are prone to shutdown like this if the return fitting gets clogged up inside the injection pump (line that comes out of the top front of the pump). Ike

To bid or to buy, that is the genset question.

One other point here, is the question of what are your goals, is it to get a good running generator, or have everything restored and working like new down to authentic CARC paint scheme? Many of the components on these older MEP generators are hard to find and often expensive, if your goal is...

    MEP-002A Valve Adjustment Procedure

For a different take on the same basic procedure, here is a link to the Onan manual for the civilian version of the same engine: http://www.cumminsonan.com/www/pdf/manuals/967-0751.pdf Ike

    MEP-002a Service Needs

I don't have any immediate thoughts on the suspect for this one, however the pop means there is likely going to be visible charring somewhere. The best suggestion I have at the moment is to go through the TM and follow test procedures, check to make sure you have good connections, in particular...

    MEP004 Lugs

Hmmm, did you accidentally reply to the wrong message thread here? The MEP-004 and MEP-005 that are being talked about are 60 Hz generators, just as issued only output 3 phase power. Ike

    MEP-003A hook up question

I would strongly suggest not using a wire nut for such safety connection in a high vibration environment

    MEP004 Lugs

There are how to videos, etc. online to get 120/240 single phase out of a MEP-004, but they do require cutting connections on the boards, and adding a couple of jumper wires between the studs. After that there are some changes that need to be made to the metering, safeties, etc. in the cabinet...

    MEP004 Lugs

In stock configuration there is no 120/240V single phase output option on the MEP-004 without modifying the connection board wiring, I suspect what you may have done is connect the MEP-004 at 120/208 3 phase then only run 2 legs and a neutral to your house, this works, but would only give you...
