The OO3a engine WOULD work, if the generator were a 4 pole. It needs to turn at 3600 RPM, outside of the range of the 003A. IIRC, the governor on those engines will allow 2800 RPM.
The Hatz diesel engines may work. Still you will need a flex plate to join the two plus any adaption for the...
Just remember "T to T". Top to transmission. Meaning the bottom is to the vacuum pump.
The vacuum regulator valve ages and the foam filter within decomposes, plugging the vent which causes it to fail closed. Yes, that was my experience. It is nearly impossible to clean as it is clipped...
If the wring to the terminal is 2 AWG, it will support a 2500 Watt 24 volt inverter. You will need a minimum of #2 wire to make the connection, a 150 amp circuit breaker is a good idea as is a disconnect although most circuit breakers have a manual trip.
The inverter will be $280+, far more...
I've been able to dissect the crimped style sealed case gauges and remove the crystal. This is for gauge repair but would also work for crystal swapping. Or polishing.
I use a small screwdriver to start to open the crimp, then move up to small pliers etc. To recrimp the bezel, cut a hole in...
Home Depot has Prep 'n' Etch, it is the same thing as Ospho, only $18 a gallon. It is environmentally harmless, being phosphoric acid which is a fertilizer.
It can be used to completely remove rust. Less work than using a wire wheel, also safer. But slower. It WILL alter the color of...
I filled up the 1031 the other day and it took 18.6 gallons. The gauge needle was just a tick above empty. I guess the tank sock is in good shape, it it had any significant cracks/breaks, there is no way it would have continued to run.
They may last 10 years in a gasoline vehicle. They are unsuitable for a diesel engine. ESPECIALLY the 6.2 Detroit in military trim.
The glow plug load followed by the starter will kill them FAST. I learned the hard way, back when red tops were selling for $120.
Well stated Tanner! Synthetics offer very little in protection for automatic transmissions. If your transmission has been overheated, then you may have problems that will not be solved by switching to synthetics.
Synthetic oils offer one benefit, temperature tolerance. They do not lubricate...
If you are lucky, starters are a piece of cake. Brushes and solenoid contacts, sure. But when the commutator shucks a pad, things get dicey. If a winding opens in the middle, it gets a lot more complicated.
Plenty of pressure, even off the return line. The return should be cooler which is better for the turbocharger oil supply. Remember, the turbine side is hot, the oil also helps cool the center bearing.
24 volt systems use half the current to perform the same work. While the stock starter wiring is 2 AWG and should work with a 12 volt conversion, adding 24 volt accessories like an inverter will be easier since you can run smaller wire.
I have a 2300 Watt inverter which runs off 24 volt and...
Quit scaring Tim.
I feel Tim is telegraphing the negative comments from his social/familial circles on his desires for a M1009. They don't know of the resources for fixing/restoring such a vehicle. Sadly, we live in a disposable society, mostly because labor is despised. Tim is...
The state bureaucrats will only dredge up that CFR and find an exemption to civilian ownership of said vehicle :cookoo:.
Then they will claim since it isn't a heavy-duty vehicle, it must conform to the year model and chassis, forcing you to install the EGR system. Which will cause MORE soot...
The vacuum regulator would not adjust. I got it to move, regardless of position, vacuum out was the same as vacuum in. So I did what I always do, I tore into it. The main sealing element for the regulator is shot, causing it to leak regardless of tension on the spring. The tension is set...
You have school in the morning, plus MKC has you down for fire wood stacking:lol:. And this weekend is out as we have other issues. In a few weeks we should be ready. Plus I need to spend some time with my 1031 as it needs repair on the transmission vacuum regulator valve.
Be careful what you wish for..I just might use your strong back for breaking down some split rim tires, just to keep traditions alive. Back in the Army, new drivers got to do this task. It involves sledge hammers, pry bars, wedges and SWEAT. MKC has 3 to do on the M37 so it won't be as much...
I've used this KD Tool 2291 on Fords, Mazdas, VWs and Briggs and Stratton. I've had it for 8 years, amazing it works for this application for both removal and install. IIRC, I paid $15 for it. I think I have gotten my money's worth.
Warren, don't tempt Tim. One 1009 is MORE than enough for him. My sanity must be preserved!!! He is already pining to learn proper operation of an M35A2.
I lucked out. I had in my tool box a NAPA Crankshaft Puller, #2291 (KD Tools 2291). It has the correct bolts AND the threaded puller shaft is the correct M16 pitch! Which means you insert the hex head into the crank (hex head is machined down from the threaded portion). then turn the puller...
Well, you also have my services:driver:. All you have to do is supply parts and tater bombs [thumbzup]. MKC has a spare relay solenoid he will sell you. Brand new too. Took me 30 minutes to install.
