Make sure you cycle the steering from lock to lock about a half dozen times, hold the wheel at each lock for a few seconds, to get the air out. Also check for leaks to find out where the fluid went to in the first place. Is your pump belt or gear driven?
Dot 3 and dot 4 are comparable with each other but dot 5 is not. It is best to check the system to find out what is in the master cylinder and the wheel cylinders before you add fluid. Mixing the different types will make a mess and require a lot of work to fix.

Is that rating highway or cross country? The military has a habit of derating vehicles. The civilian version has a higher tow rating. You probably should use a frame mounted receiver if you exceed the government ratings.
My truck # starts with 96***** and it was purchased in 1989.
