I, too , installed both of westfolk's kits. No leaks, but I am not sure how some people could, according to them, install the kits in 20 minutes. It took me a good while, especially the secondary filter.
I like the kits, the clear video instructions and so far, so good!
Thanks to all that replied. For now, I used the thimbles to hold the wheels and I snugged up the lug nuts, flat side in, as recommended. I notice that the lug nuts snug up against the bulge of the thimble, not against the wheel. I assume that this gives the bulge of the thimble more resistance...
I flipped the hubs a long time ago and did what seemed logical to do: spin the thimbles all the way onto the lug bolts to re-use the rear lug nuts.
Lately, I have been reading that one should not do this, as it can cause the lug bolts to break. So....I need to get 24 front lug nuts and take the...
So, they'd sell you the Deuce remains for about $500 (guess it still weighs about 10,000 lbs).
You have damage in the rear that may or may not be frame damage.
You can bob the truck and not worry about a second rear axle.
However, the truck broke down in the woods during logging operations. You...
Do you recommend re-torquing head bolts to see if that reduces seepage or just stay the **** away from it until you absolutely need to do the head gasket?
US - production M35 are either Gas (petrol) or Multifuel. There is no ''Diesel'' in the lineup. Sometimes you see ''Diesel only'' written on the fuel tank, but that is not because there is a Diesel engine in the truck.
US-production 5-ton trucks are Gas (petrol), Multifuel, or have a Mack or...
I understand your question, but in this forum you are really asking "2 1/2 ton or 5 ton".
Stacking up my two cents: the Multifuel was never designed to be particularly long lasting and indestructible. It has other qualities that were important for the military at the time.
Having said that...
Just finished wire brushing, pressure washing and flat black painting 7 wheels. They have the 11.00-20 G286 mounted and I can't wait to put them onto the truck.
A couple of tires had severe overspray (thanks to previous owner) and it was a pain in the butt to remove.
Indeed, the flap is the first part of the cover that I thread through behind the winch clutch lever. I use a long pair of needle-nose pliers to grab the flap from underneath. Try to pull it through as straight (without folds) as possible and watch the rad fins!
It comes off 3 times easier than...
Check surplus places (such as sprucemount surplus; they seem to be out of stock at the moment http://www.sprucemtsurplus.com/102002/PA200048.jpg ). Many people have gotten a gallon of MilSpec dot 5 for 30 bucks or so.
I think brake fluid also. Remember that you have only one brake circuit and a master cylinder that holds only a small quantity of "extra" fluid.
I recommend that you pull the drum and check it out. Please do not drive it on public roads with a brake fluid leak. If it is an axle seal, it is not...
Coffee can is great. Especially when you forget it is there and shoot the can and a load of crud across the roof of your wife's car. Always a good laugh right there.
I recommend installing a metal flapper. Can be had for a few bucks at a tractor store. The latest model M35A2C had it from the...
As a principle, petroleum engineering in the 1950's and today is a little different. Today's lubricants are advanced products and USUALLY will surpass the quality of most products available decades ago.
The application for wheel bearing grease in the Deuce is not "special" in any way; no...
I looked at the existing threads and got so-so info.
1) removal of the IP is recommended - is this really necessary?
2) Westech offers newly made hoses (have not heard back from him, yet). I'd rather go with new material on this one than with OEM stock of unknown age. Any feedback on his...
I am not aware of stock locking diffs on the M35A2C. Some 5tons and wreckers had them, IIRC. What you see is likely the result of highway tire pressure and no weight in the bed. Not enough to prevent any of the tires from spinning.
1. the vent line is just that - it allows to equalize pressure between the inside of the MC and the ambient air.
2. no, but you may allow fluid from your new reservoir to travel along the vent line when the MC is full. The cap on your new reservoir is vented, so any additional venting at a lower...
