These are by far the most useful CUCV. The 12 kW Lima MAC generator is itself, bulletproof. The Barber-Coleman governor with the Woodward overspeed protection system and Barber Coleman ramp generator has a problem with implementation. But it works well, if all the interlock switches are...
The inverter is on back order. I timed this purchase poorly, given the rash of power outages in the East.
I have looked at several portable AC units and how to plumb them into the truck with minimal modifications. Thinking of using the footwell vent for air supply, then making a manifold to...
I'll post pictures once mine gets operational. It has a bunch of deficiencies, the biggest is the governor droops excessively. The rest are just laundry list items:
Breather for compressor missing.
Vise missing 3 screws for jaw faces (all jaw faces found).
Flood lights missing power cords...
IMHO, the reason the CUCVs went with 1" bore was because the tow points are square tube steel. The larger diameter bore gives more bearing area.
With 3/4" pins in double shear, assuming a safe shear load of 20,000 PSI, a safe working load is 17,500 pounds. With two feet, that is 35,000...
Alternators are directly connected to the batteries. If you are seeing voltage drop on the dash gauge, then the issue is in the bus where the volt meter is connected. I don't have the wiring diagram handy, just trace the meter to where the loads are connected. Sounds like a bad connection...
Rebuilt injection pumps are $400. Injector set is about the same. Even at $4 a gallon, that will buy you 3000 miles of diesel in a CUCV.
I'd rather use the right fuel than have to replace the fuel system.
We towed my M1031 from WI to TX at an average of 13.2 MPG. And with full AC in the tow...
The bushings work fine. We used 3/4-1" bronze Oilite bushings to tow my M1031 from Sparta WI to Central TX. Slight wear with blackening from vibration. Removing the play makes for more stable towing.
Excellent! The generator on my M1031 SECM worked fine, frequency was a bit low so I brought it up adjusting the pot. But droop was severe, going from 61 Hz unladen to 56 Hz with the compressor engaged. The droop adjustment was a mid span, it needs to be maximum counterclockwise for...
Twin hose unit. Meaning a supply and discharge are both needed. Also, it evaporates the condensate on the condenser coil, resulting in slightly higher efficiency by using evaporative cooling on the hot side.
The NV 35/4500 series have different synchro rings which is why they need special synthetic lubes. Tolerances aren't the reason, bearings and gear design are, out of the goal of reducing energy loss. Which makes it a better transmission as long as you use the correct lube.
The NV 4500 is a...
I am the new owner of a M1031 Shop Equipment, Contact Maintenance truck and being in Central Texas, AC is a great idea. Hacking and chopping plus the expense was something I would rather avoid so I have been thinking...
This truck already has power lead to the SECM box, a 4 AWG 24 volt lead...
The coolant pump is dynamic, not a fixed displacement. So it can be dead headed without issue. The thermostat only blocks flow to the radiator. Coolant still flows through the engine block until the coolant reaches the thermostat's initial opening temperature, then some flow goes through the...
The NV4500 will handle anything you want to tow with a CUCV. It isn't as much a function of GCVW but rather engine. Be aware it needs special synthetic lube.
No playing with my new toy today, dad called and had a water pump go bad in his car. Then I have to fix the CUCV "recovery vehicle", mkcoen's truck. Radiator replacement.
I'm a wrench spinning fool, now you know why I wanted an M1031 SECM. If the women don't find you handsome, at least they...
You will also need the small ratio carrier (part the ring gear bolts to) for 3.73 ratio for the front (Dana 60).
Best bet? Find someone wanting 4.56 gears and trade.
We got the M1031 HOME!! Without damage too. 1300 miles flat towed. Towed FINE using the 39,000 pound tow bars, 1"-3/4" bushings on the truck's rails (bronze bushings, oil soaked) and most importantly, a F250 Superduty 4x4 quad cab. Driveshaft removed and tied up, transfer case in neutral...
Not much...the EUC came in today, insurance and temp plates. Tomorrow at 0500, the crew and I depart for WI on a 1300 mile recovery, then a 1300 mile flat tow back. Yes, we have proper military tow bar, tools, lights and hands. In case the tow vehicle breaks down, we can reconnect driveshaft...
