Master switch pole 28 bypasses the low oil pressure and over-temperature switches. Since the starter cuts out above 900 RPM (when properly adjusted), there is no harm keeping master switch in the far right position until oil pressure rises above 15 PSI, the set point it 14 PSI.
The Hobbs...
The oil cooler is thermostatically controlled. It shouldn't flow until oil temperature is above about 180 F. Check oil bypass valve and valve cover to make sure you don't have an internal leak in the oil system.
If you want a priming pump, it would be best to take oil from a tee installed...
Yes, there is a small screw securing the solenoid coil to the back cap. You need to slightly pull the cap off, then remove this screw.
If you remove the bolts securing the solenoid to starter, you can grab the solenoid shaft with padded pliers to remove the back nut securing the contactor...
Yes, the plate rotates IF the contact points are at nearly the same height. This one was not. It works now.
The owner of the M35 it came out of had starter issues ever since he bought it. TAD overhauled the truck in the 1990s and it wasn't run much since then.
If all you need to fix is the electrical side, no need to remove. Just pull the electrical side off the solenoid and fix the main contacts.
The below images show a bad starter solenoid contact set. The studs on the black plastic cap were at different heights and this caused the SHORTER one to...
Yeah, only a MEP-005A would drive that. Horrible power factor with those old plasma machines which is why the output is only a shade above 10 kW while it loads the generator at 25+kW.
FORGET phase conversion. Snag a 005A. Unless you have a commercial power connection, it will be cheapest.
Yes, ammonia is corrosive to aluminum. But if the engine is corroded, the aluminum pistons generally take the brunt of the attack, filling the gap between the piston and cylinder with aluminum oxide/hydoxide. This will seize the engine, BAD. The cylinder's iron walls oxidize, causing the cold...
Split phase. 240 volts is obtained from a center-tapped secondary transformer that is referenced to ground. This allows for 240 volts with only 120 volt potential to ground, making for slightly safer systems for household electricity.
In three phase, each line is offset by 120 degrees which...
Easy. Lift the fuel cut-off solenoid plunger (called the governor solenoid in the TM but isn't directly controlling the governor). Watch the lever with the ball link stud to see if it moves up freely. With solenoid in the full up position, attempt to rotate this fuel control lever, it should...
Nice. Using it stand-alone or driven off the power steering system? That would set directional control valve center spool type.
You can also eschew the shear pin nonsense by using a pressure relief valve set to limit bare drum maximum pull.
Certainly normal for open axle differentials. You will have to disassemble a differential to see why...but basically, the input shaft wasn't turning so when you turned a wheel, that side gear rotated. Since the ring gear wasn't turning, this meant the spider gears now were turning on their...
How does the NATO slave receptacle work? Yes, all but the 1010 have two 12 volt alternators, one for each battery BUT they are also connected in series so they "act" as a single 24 volt alternator.
It still would require two 12 volt batteries.
Just duct the hot air and exhaust out from the generator louvers. These generators like to be a bit warm, 90-100 F, for stable frequency. Unless you are driving them very hard (over military rating), taking care of the exhaust air is more than adequate.
Yes, I have identified running noise as being on the fans and the normal diesel noise which isn't damped due to the lack of a water jacket.
A lightweight "dog house" which simply drops onto the generator should shield these higher frequencies with minimal acoustic absorbing lining, probably...
Get a friend and a heat gun. Take the air cleaner off, play the heat gun on the intake for a few minutes and then try starting while friend blasts the intake with the heat gun. No need for glow plugs with intake heater.
