The only problem with single weight oil is that it must be changed to SAE10 when the temp drops, but where I live and how I drive, the SAE30 is perfect.
Edit: Added DD lube requirements (image from a pamphlet).
As usual, right click on image and open link in new window for full res.
It may not have been done correctly, we are all human.
See TM 9-2815-210-34-2-2 for procedure.
Leonard Jones did an expert job on mine back in '06.
Images show him drilling the drain holes and me doing my part, cleaning. :-)
So, the chain and hook on the 20,000 lb winch limits its use to 10,000 lb at all times. However, the chain and hook part can be removed and a clevis installed in its place for universal use.
That's my plan after learning about the ratings. I checked my junk, looking for a 10 ton clevis...
Having driven the deuce on the highways a lot, I often flip the headlights off and back on for passing trucks etc, how is this done with the pushbuttons? With the lever switch, I just reach down and move the lower left lever from "dim" to "park" and back.
A note about the installation of the...
I agree with above posts, the charging system will not be hurt by "bad" batteries, the regulator is current and voltage limited.
About the batteries, though:
They are probably sulfated and may "look" charged when checking the voltage. Get a battery tester (specific gravity) and find out for...
Received a "5-ton" winch snatch block today, purchased from a fellow SS member, thanks Ted, it's a beaut! NSN 3940-00-105-9933.
Its rating is 4 ton lift and 10 ton winching and it makes me question the rating of the chain and hook, standard for the winch. It is obvious that it is not designed...

Bill's blue cranetruck is also represented (still need to fix his email addy.....).
Travis, the light switch CB is within the switch housing......it's rated 20 amps and the dimmer resistor is 30 ohms.
Thanks for working on it, although I'm personally perfectly happy with the TM wiring diagrams, with all the variations from year to year. Some features like an oil pressure...
Wow, 500 gallons, using, say two 275 gal totes, your truck may be a bit top heavy and be careful with sloshing in the curves.
500 gallons of VO weighs 3,800 lb.
Fresh VO is a lot better than used (WVO), it's not acid for one thing and needs no processing.
Still, I wouldn't keep a large percentage of VO or WVO, for that matter, in the system longer than absolutely necessary. It's perfect for a long trip when you can run it all out and finish with...
