Yeah, log-in fields for example.
On the old site I had white text on black background, which is very comfy to read, this is much more strenuous and I will have to reduce my time here for sure, old eyes and all that.
Miss having the images to scroll to while typing.....
One question Mike, why?
IMHO, very tiring to navigate the site, too many colors, no fields visible and I miss the PS magazine random shot.
You know me, always complaining. :-)
Replaced the South Wind personnel heater on the 8x8 with a Benmar heater, as called out by the TM for this vehicle. The Benmar does not use a wick, but a ceramic vaporizer and should be more reliable.
Sure enough, it fired up on the very first test run after having been unused for perhaps 15 or...
Did you ever get the contact info?....It would be nice to be able to rebuild the fuel valves I have sitting around, I can always use some spare parts, gaskets, O-rings etc....
RE: Re: Another Pyro question.....
Spend your money on quality probe(s), which are K-type thermocouples and will work with just about any pyrometer gauge. It's important in a pre-turbo installation that the probe(s) can take the heat and not disintegrate and ruin a perfectly good turbo.
I...
Add to the above deuce mods, alcohol evaporator, pressurized axle housings, crankcase breather filter, separate airpak breather from MC and tank vents, pyro, boost gauge..... The most useful mod I ever made was to add the K-boom, of course.
Or you can find a '69 m656/xm757 8x8 which come...
RE: Re: RE: 2 batteries instead of 4 !
When it gets cold, you have two basic choices, add batteries, since they loose capacity when cold or warm the engine AND the batteries, so that two can do the job of four or more. Sooner or later, as the temp drops you'll run out of space for additional...
RE: Visit at Crane Truck
Thanks for posting! I really did enjoy your company and the invitation to test drive the 757 is open to any visiting steelsoldier, conditions permitting, of course.
RE: Re: RE: 2 batteries instead of 4 !
My 5-ton 8x8 came from factory with a 2-pack, which the designers must have been comfy with, the army changed that to a 4-pack later for more reserve capacity, not normally needed by most of us. The location of the new battery box was also changed.
The...
Great images! I simply have to get the 8x8 on the road now...the hunt for new tires is becoming a priority..... (and maybe even mud flaps, judging from that truck/tractor (oilcan's?) above. :-)
Kenny, I see you completed another marathon drive, glad you made it all right.
RE: manifold heater O-rings replacement
The nozzle is pressure sensitive and should remain OFF for fuel pressures below about 60 psi, which normally exists on the fuel feed line from the IP. The flame heater pump produces 90 psi, which opens this valve. Original intake heater systems used...
RE: Re: Cold Start Switch on lower left dash
The momentary contact toggle switch is the same for the "flame heater" and the ether start system.
The original cold weather starting system is the intake manifold heater, which uses a spark igniter to keep a mist of diesel fuel from a nozzle...
