Excellent, excellent job clinto! Those trails could become an official steelsoldiers test track, like them humps, looks like some are not wide enough on top to cross with anything bigger than a jeep or ATV...or perhaps a Gama Goat. :-)
Just a note....unless you have a 24-volt battery, it is better to charge two series connected 12-volt batteries individually. Having said that, I'm aware of 24-volt batteries used in gensets and other equipment.
Well, thanks to the tandem arrangement, when the tire lost air pressure, the front end was still supported by the other tires and the blown one must have peddled along misaligning itself (like you suggested) and getting torn apart....I'm certainly no expert on tire wear, so I can only report...
I echo your sentiments about tandem axles...During the 8x8 tow, one tire blew out and there was not the slightest hint of loss of control, just a thud and I knew what had happened. I had no problem finding a place to pull over and my fix was simply to tie up the axle with a short chain.

I cheated a little, used a transformer to match the impedances. The CB "Speaker output" may or may not want to see an 8 ohm load, which would be a typical speaker impedance, so for most efficient power transfer, I put an audio transformer between the CB and the VIC-1 . The input winding is about...
Good suggestion. When Brandon visited a week ago, we checked out the old deuce and when he peeked below the engine he noticed a split in the tire casing near the bead of the right front tire...dangerous! the tire is still holding pressure and looks normal.
Don't get me wrong, the easier you can make it for the starting system, the better. So, if you can preheat the engine and keep the batteries at their optimal performance temp (about room temperature), you'll have an easy time with the starting. The engine needs a cranking rpm of 200-300 to...
RE: Re: RE: 923 series manuals
Milman61 has them on ebay, perhaps not the latest version, but then again, we work with vintage vehicles for the most part...
As I recall, it doesn't get very cold in Seattle, the proximity to the ocean and all, so for ambients above about 10°F, you only need to make sure your batteries are in top condition and your crankcase oil correct for the season...
Bruce, what can I say, but thank you for those words? You should have seen Eric's big smile after his first circle around the field! Hope more of you will have a chance to drive it.
Yesterday, during Eric (doghead) and Amy's visit, we drove the 757 around in the same field again. The truck ran beautifully. Not even Amy thought that it was very noisy and Eric noted a turbo boost of 15 psi at one point, no real load, just accelerating in the field. It shifted very smoothly...
RE: coms
This is a copy of my post from 2005, images didn't survive the site "crash", I'll look for some to go with the info...
To answer questions on the VIC-1 intercom system as installed in the deuce, check the images below.
I purchased the system shown here over a period of a year or so...
These images are from an M109 (doghead).
There is complete isolation between the heat source and blower, so no chance of CO poisoning unless there is a failure of some sort. The personnel heater in my 8x8 is fuel fired and it is located within the crew area with exhaust and air intake outside...
Amy and Eric (doghead), just left my place on their way to clinto's rally.
They visited for a couple of hours and we all took turns driving the 757 in a nearby field. Great fun, some video was recorded too.
Super people! Hope you all have a great time at the rally.
