Convoy to SteelSoliders Georgia Event in October

So, Brandon, any update on the towbar pick-up, did you work something out with kipman to haul them to the rally? If you do come by, I may have a few other items, to bring down if there is an interest. How about jerry can insulators (jackets?), NOS, $25/ea? Got two of them. They cost almost as...

New gauge cluster for 5 ton

Clean look! Not sure if "cad sensor" is what I'd call it, you are referring to the flame detector, right? The reason for its existence is to prevent the squirting of raw fuel into the intake manifold, which could lead to hydrostatic lock under the worst of circumstances. It tells you if the fuel...

    Engine oil pressure

The oil pressure regulator, located just below the turbo on the block is supposed to keep the pressure below about 70 psi. It is easy to remove and the unit can be checked out according to the TM procedure (spring lengths etc).

    XM757 progress

Like the engine, the tires (16/70-20 NDCC) were designed and used exclusively for this series of trucks, so they are hard to find. So, yes, I do want to stick with the original style. They were made both bias ply and radials, all mine are bias ply, the one radial that was on the truck blew out...

    Gel batteries

One feature of the gel cells is that the self discharge rate is lower, so if the batteries are charged reasonably often they won't sulfate, which sets in when the voltage drops. Also, if kept cool, batteries will last longer.

    Help cracking open lights

If all else fails, cut the screw heads off, lift the cover and use a wisegrip on the screws. About 3/8 of an inch will protrude with plenty of space to grip. The thread is 10-24 if you need to run a tap to clear the holes...

    Tatra 912-2 upgrades!

Interesting bit about the oil filter. Here is the internals of the scraper type filter used on the xm757, which has a micron rating of 50 (primary fuel filter and also serves as a water separator). It was selected to reduce maintenance, one turn of the handle did the job and draining. Adding a...

    XM757 progress

The air tank was replaced with a spare that I had sitting around. It's the same as the deuce tanks except for fittings and 3 ea tanks are used on this truck. Kenny wrote: Whats left to do Bjorn besides rubbers? Is it ready for the winter pilgrimage to FL and parts south? I'll probably find...

More images showing the current status of the project. The fuel tank selector valves are now fully operational and a cover was fabbed up to keep rain and snow off.

    Deuce Front End Alignment????

RE: Re: Deuce Front End Alignment???? This may have been covered in one or more of the references/links above, but the fact that the rear axles are coupled without an interaxle differential causes a fair amount of tire scrub on the front tires, which makes them wear on the outside halves...

    fording kits

RE: fording kit Some deuces have parts of the fording kit "factory" installed, my USMC '68 M49A2C, for example. The hard-to-find stuff, like the fording handle, low pressure regulator, air tank check valve and associated plumbing was installed, leaving only the hoses for air intake, compressor...
