Motorcycles are very hard on batteries because they typically have permanent magnet alternators with shunt-type voltage regulators. These alternators have low output at idle while the regulator must dump the excess voltage as heat with the engine at high speed. Automotive alternators have...
Actually, charging is the only way. Lead sulfate forms at both the cathode and anode plates during discharge, that is why the specific gravity drops as the sulfuric acid is converted to lead sulfate. Most batteries have dense-packed construction to protect against vibration and shock. In...
All good points TN Col. As batteries age, the lead sulfate which forms as a result of discharge form into a crystalline form which is very hard to revert to lead/lead oxide in the charging process. Most chargers, including the regulator on the alternator are just voltage regulators and these...
It takes more than 2 hours to fully charge dead batteries. There is no way to fully charge batteries quickly because as soon as you get the voltage over 28.8, the batteries generate hydrogen. Also, fully discharged batteries charged with the alternator can become over heated.
It is always...
3 inch Sch 40 PVC works. Just put a cap on the end to have a place to hit. Use a dead blow mallet with rubber face. No fear of breaking glass.
This is the pinon seal. 3" IPS is 3.5" OD.
The hotel load (lights, etc) is minimal. With a properly functioning 60 A alternator, you will get a 90% charge in 2 hours. Remember, the alternator puts out 60 A only when the engine is at least 1800 RPM and the voltage at the batteries is 24. As voltage climbs, current falls.
The batteries...
Sweet! Remember, lead sulfate is the product of battery discharge (which is why the specific gravity drops) and it doesn't conduct electricity very well. This leads to poor capacity from regular charging and use. Deep charging converts this lead sulfate trapped deep in the plates back into...
Well, 300 miles a day can be done easily. Does it have ALL the OVM? Tire REPAIRING tools? A few feet of chain to wrap the wheel in lieu of a cage? Spare DOT5, MC and WC rebuilding kits? A gallon of paint thinner for solvent (brake repair, use it to degrease linings). Tube fitting kit...
The NSN is 2910-00-066-1235. You will also need the siphon extensions, 4710-00-597-8731 although a good machine shop can make one from tubing or you can use a fuel proof hose with a clunk weight on the end.
I would just leave the vent bung loose. Always cover the drums to protect against water. When on an FTX and drums had to be protected by burial, covering to prevent rain water floating the tank was also a consideration as were berms to prevent runoff water issues. And the soil from those...
Yes, you could bleed with only pressure on the MC. But you would have to fll the MC every wheel. The pressure reservoir makes the job much easier, just have a hose with a container, slip it over the bleeder screws and loosen until no more bubbles.
Remember to bleed the booster first.
Well, you cannot easily adjust valve timing. Valve clearances, sure.
For diesel engines, adding a muffler isn't going to increase valve or head temperatures. Why? Diesels run cooler because most of the time, they are very lean. While a SLIGHTLY lean condition in a gasoline engine will be...
How about a 5 ton IP? More torque? That is from higher cylinder pressures which mean higher piston temperatures. And the pistons are a bit different.
Now you could intercool it BUT the turbos used are pretty much in their "eye" meaning there isn't much gain here.
Second. It protects the engine. They don't like spinning too fast You might increase the spring tension to get higher RPM but anything over 2800 is asking for problems. Any fuel/RPM mods requires an oil cooler, PERIOD. Direct injection diesel pistons need all the oil cooling they can get...
Well, Andy is still on the road back to home but I got back (from another member's house, fixing his MEP003A) so I guess I can spread the great news and gloat .
I got to DRMO around 0745 with parts from Home Depot. This was a 25' length of 1/4" polyethylene tube, a 1/8 NPT 1/4"...
That keeps the trolls to a minimum. Once you have proven yourself, you get better performance.
If you are on your own computer (not work, library or borrowed), consider remembering your login on that computer.
It is called adjusting the brakes. It sets the minimum the retract spring will pull the shoes from the brake drums, there is a "snail adjuster" on the forward and aft parts of the backing plate.
The wheel is elevated on jack stand and transmission is placed in neutral. All other wheels...
