I second Chris's idea about running 24 volts to a separate "sub" panel in the van....and using smaller DC to DC converters where needed (at each point of load). The 35 amp ones sound good.
RE: Re: RE: Energy to move a deuce
I like flywheels, but it may be a good idea to stay with electrical storage units so that the power doesn't have to be converted back and forth between mechanical and electrical. A flywheel is good short term storage on a moving vehicle, but not so good to...
Right David, let's try to stick to the original topic, I'd hate to see another thread locked up because of general energy discussions as has happened a few time before. The topic is the energy required to run a deuce/car compared to household requirements and ways to use the truck or car for...
Glad you were able to keep the truck under control.
Seems like they have a fair number of commercial type solutions on that vehicle.
So, which came first, the Oshkosh 8x8 firetrucks or the HEMTT (same design)?
My point is that the deuce or the car puts out a heck of a lot more power than needed around the house. The house requirements may only be 1 to 3 kw/hr while the deuce needs 75 kw/hr just to run on a level highway.
With the right kind of energy storage, batteries, a much smaller generator can...
A long time ago, I calculated that the horsepower needed to run a deuce at 50 mph was about 100, based on fuel consumption.
That would mean that the energy to move a deuce at 50 mph 500 miles is approx (currently) equal to my total monthly home energy usage.
Energy to drive my civi car at 50...
The Sprague units on my 8x8 are air powered and have the same mounting holes as the smaller motors on the deuce...haven't tried it, but looks like they should fit.

I have seen them on ebay, may be...
Yeah, save a cupfull, I have gone thru hundreds of gallons of veggie oil and biodiesel without problems directly related to it, so I'm interested.
I'm sending you my address via PM...

If you happen to have the shell and only need the insert, specify the insert by putting "97" in front of the number, "97-16-10S" for example. A snap ring holds it in place and it is more economical than buying the assembled finished...
The tires are "equipment" types, used on graders, backhoes etc. They are available with different aspect ratios....I have looked at them as suitable replacements for the tires on my 8x8, which should have a 70% aspect ratio. They are very expensive ($1,000/tire) and there may be some speed...
With this cargo, the CG of the load itself would end up about 24 inches above the surface of the bed. If my calculations are correct, the CG for the truck and cargo would end up about 53 inches above ground, 8 inches higher than a loaded m50 tanker truck.
The vehicle would begin to roll over at...
RE: MV Convoy US Rt 20 coast to coast
Sorry to read about your problems...do save a sample of the crankcase oil, it would be interesting to see the analysis report on it.
Is the veggie truck fitted with heated tank(s)? The viscosity of cold VO is many times that of diesel.......What is the...
I see that, my assumption was that it was during start-up, that's the reason for the question. The Cat engine probably runs hotter than the multi then.
Based on what I see in the FMTV manual, it has to do with an overheated engine....I withdraw the question....
There is no cool down period if the engine never gets hot. I'm assuming that they refer to start-up, perhaps I'm wrong....
I think the turbo warning is for a different situation, to let it spool down without running out of oil pressure.
Getting the engine to "normal" operating temp can take a...
