Ref image 1 below, can someone expand on the damage to the engine that may occur here, also note that there is only one load rating, what used to be reserved for offroad driving only....
I have one FDC, which leaks and one day I'll set it up so that the exact nature of the leak can be determined. At the moment it is hooked up alongside the IP and serves as a viscosity sensor....yes, the leaking fuel is collected and dumped back into the tank.
For more info on the FDC, do a...
Re: RE: Re: RE: dangerous truck
It is interesting how the A3 and FMTV trucks only have one rating, what used to be "off-road" configuration, but it's probably not an engineering problem...sad that not even the military can trust that the trucks are loaded correctly for the occasion.
Why not use steel brake line tubing...buy the correct length from you local auto parts place, already flared.
Double flare the copper line using a standard flaring tool.
RE: dangerous truck
I agree with bottleworks....The center of gravity is what matters, empty it will be about 40 inches above ground, loaded with 500 gallons of water about 43 inches, which means that you have a theoretical tip over angle of about 40 degrees, still plenty safe.
The 5-ton can...
The deuce tires should hold pressure as well as any tire, mine show hardly any drop after a year...
I have found that the front tires need to be closely matched as to wear, mfg and pressure to run smooth (given alignment to spec, of course). If all your tires are worn, I would suggest that you...
During the starting and shutting down of an engine, electrical spikes are sometimes generated and electronics are supposed to be off, as is generally known. An electronic switch, which must be on at all times to be turned on in the first place should really be protected by a mechanical toggle...
Re: RE: Crane
You will have a certain amount of frame twist no matter where the crane is mounted but it doesn't cause any permanent damage. Driving off road on "frame twister " terrain also doesn't cause permanent damage, like you said, it's designed to move a little.
A 2-ton load carried...
The thermocouple normally used is a "K"type and any pyrometer gauge calibrated for this type will work, including, possible your digital multimeter.
Installed post turbo there wouldn't be a problem, but pre turbo may be, since some probes are not made to be exposed to temps of 1,200-2,000 °F and...
Considering that you moved the cab so far forward, the placement of the crane may not be so bad, with the number specified and a 4,000 lb crane, the weight taken off the front axle will be 837 lb......
I recall Leonard saying that the Grove crane is almost exactly the same weight as the K-boom on my deuce, 3,800 lb give or take.
That much weight centered about 3 ft behind the rear axle will lighten the front axle load by perhaps as much as 800 lb. I don't know the dimensions of the Baby hemtt...
Hmmm...just providing info, the sway-back frame is a weak argument IMHO.
A 4,000 lb crane is not going to have the same effect(s) on a 10-ton truck as it will on a 2-1/2 ton one, so I'm only presenting some facts.
Re: RE: HEMTT Material Handling Crane Curiosity
This has been brought up a couple of times as a drawback for the behind-the-cab mounted K-boom crane....I have not had a problem with this after 13 years of experience with this particular crane use.
99% of the time my boom is extended over the...
