Unfortunately, a lot of those air-o-matic units have been sitting around in storage for years before used and the seals dry out and potentially leak. I would recommend pulling the high-pressure air inlet for the system and put in a few ml of air tool oil and exercise the steering lock to lock...
I've never heard of this on an 003A, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Usually if you drain a little bit of oil into a container you can smell the diesel fuel in it if diesel is getting into the oil on a diesel engine.
I sometimes have the same problem. I shut the engine down and switch the voltage-ammeter selector switch back and forth several times. When started back up the voltage is always correct. I obviously have dirty contacts in the switch.
I run 60 psi and it drives much better than at 45 psi. The tires can take 80 psi, but the wheels are redlined at 60. I still get the death wobble, but not nearly so much as with lower tire pressure. I also find that the more I drive the truck, the less the death wobble. I don't think the...
No, after the 3rd Armored Division moved out it went downhill. The area is now being developed as an industrial park from what I understand. I drove by about a year before the end and it really looked bad. When I was stationed there, it was the largest U.S. Army garrison in Europe. It was...
Welcome back Case! That was one **** of a story! Unbelievable string of bad luck - that is except for you finding and marrying Victoria. You definitely need to plan on attending the GA rally this year. Every year that rally gets better.
I know it's popular to knock the reliability of the CTIS on M35A3 trucks, but I have to say that mine works very well and I've had only one problem. This problem was caused by an idiot in the military mangling the seal retainers on one of the rear axles. A relatively easy fix. However, I...
Hi Russ,
Welcome to the site! You will find a lot of good information here and a lot of good people willing to help. I have spent a lot of time over the years working in the UK and all of it enjoyable. I was fortunate enough to visit Pickering during War Weekend a few years ago. A very good...
I saw it in 1970 -71 in M114s, M35s and M715s. I forgot, a few times in a 151A1. Mostly in M114A1E1s though for alerts and training. I was stationed at Ayers Kaserne near Butzbach, but I was fortunate to be able to spend a lot of time driving to different units scattered around the country...
I just got off the telephone with Erik. The pressure protection valve Gimpy found for sale at Erik's is definitely the one that fits the M35A3, according to Erik. it is a slightly different design, but is the current replacement. Looking at the one on my A3, I believe it will be a simple task...
Navo, you are correct. My valve looks a little different from the one at Erik's. I'm going to call Erik today and make sure it will fit the A3. I'll let everyone know what I find out.
Mine is located on the passenger side air tank facing the outside of the truck but up near the top. Fairly easy to get to when you need to bang on it. I'll have to see how easy it is to replace.
Navo, I have had the same problems as you with my A3. I've also experienced the same problems AceHigh mentioned. If the problem is the valve AceHigh mentioned, hitting it with a rubber hammer is not adequate. You need to really whack it with steel. At least that's what mine takes when it...
