Plym, as for tools, you don't need a lot of exotic tools. A good 8-12 ton bottle jack will get your wheels in the air with no problem. A pair of at least 6 ton jack stands will keep them there. You can get a Harbor Freight 3/4" drive socket set for not much $, and it should do most of the...
Winning is not the problem. We still get rear-ended by morons even though we have big fire apparatus with flashing LED's (They're so bright I can see the reflection off of street signs on a sunny day) and big red and lime yellow reflective chevrons on the back. You still have to watch out for...
If the deuce is sitting on a good concrete slab, it should be fine barring a tornado. On asphalt they would probably sink a little and leave permanent divots. You could use a plywood pad and that would prevent damage to the asphalt. I'd make a pad from two sheets of 3/4" CDX (treated plywood...
As was said, you'll have the thickness issue as well as the fact that cedar is soft. It won't take much punishment and will scratch and get marked up pretty easily. While expensive, something like Trex (composite wood/plastic) might be good. It's VERY durable, and you can get it with wood grain.
VFF, my response had nothing to do with you fire fighting, keep that up by all means. It's hard to get good firefighters. But just as you wear turnouts and SCBA to protect you in a fire, protect yourself from liability as well. I ASSURE YOU, IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT, LAWYERS WILL FIND SOMEONE...
Welcome to the site.
While you may not have liked some of the things said, they are IMPORTANT. You said you're only doing what you are told, but could you live with yourself if someone got killed in a tanker you built because it was overloaded? 1200 gallons in a deuce WILL make it...
I got a lot of parts with mine, so I've been working on a list myself. Definitely fuel filters, extra oil, bearing and seals for at least one axle, one axle boot, battery terminals, and a u-joint. If I was going to somethin like Haspin I'd probably bring some more parts in case someone else...
I just got some wheel bearing nuts that were made by Checker Cab Company in '53. Hmmm, what would a deuce with a yellow paint job and a checker board stripe down the side look like?? Might be good for NYC traffic.
No reason to feel foolish Brian, sounds like you pulled over as soon as you noticed something was wrong.
We were coming back to Ohio from Grayling one year after our AT there, and one of the guys did something really stupid. We were the maintenance sweep. The Wrecker driver, driving a 5 ton...
The other thing to consider is if they are all about the same temp. Usually you're not going to have a great difference between the wheels, and as was said, if you can keep your hand on the hub without burning it should be okay.
What does the ring gear look like? I hate to make things sound worse, but you'll need to check that too or you could wind up fixing the ring gear and the new starter. BTW, have you looked into getting that starter repaired?
Welcome, there's a LOT of good info and people here. But make sure you read the forum rules really well, if you break one of the rules someone will be sure to let you know about it. But don't let that getcha down! You're probably gonna have to invest in some basic tools, some of which will be...
If you have one on the truck or real close in a shop, a CO2 extinguisher is an option. The only thing is you would have to have the presence of mind to aim it directly at the intake and discharge the entire bottle. If the engine is still spinning when you run out of CO2, it could restart...
I don't think gear oil would necessarily be bad, maybe just limit it to a quart or two per tank. I would think the panty hose filter might be more of a problem, depending on who had worn them previously....
