Making oil.... where to start looking?

There is a drain port on the injection pump, you may want to open it and sample the oil from the IP before doing anything else. The unit on my work bench takes a 5/16 Allen wrench.

    10 weight oil???

If you end up with extra money get a few cubies of restaurant fryer oil, good fuel for your multifuel engine. :-) No filtering required, just add it to the diesel up to 20% or so in the Summer time.

    10 weight oil???

Here you go, AW32 and AW46 are similar in viscosity, close to SAE10. That's post 6,001, I better get a life......

Making oil.... where to start looking?

This subject has been covered several times before, do a search on this site... The flame heater may leak fuel into the intake manifold adapter, don't know about the crankcase.

    Peanut Oil

Smell it, if it's rancid, don't use it, otherwise you should be okay. Also don't shake it up any water that may be present will be at the bottom. If you still have doubts, make biodiesel out of it.

    Proper way to wire Solargizer?

RE: Solarizer mount This is a combination charger/de-sulfator, not solar power, though... http://www.magnalabs.com/desulfate2.htm "The solargizer is not a charger": http://www.scsolar.com/Solargizer.html Another bit of info from the wise and allknowing internet: "Sulfation -- Even though...

    10 grade motor oil

RE: Pros and cons I was looking up viscosities and you come up with another good one Sarge. I have an easy time finding tractor hydraulic fluid, but SAE 10 motor oil is not so easy to locate around where I live. Hydraulic fluid AW32 has a viscosity of about 5.4 cst (@100°C), which is about 10...

    10 grade motor oil

Good find Tony. Keep in mind that the engine oil SAE weight ratings are not used for hydraulic fluid, you have to go by viscosity.

    not really a rant but

In my area, both dyed and clear K1 is available. The clear is good for mixing with diesel and/or veggie oil when the temp drops....

    10 grade motor oil

Best "fit" I have found, so that's what I'll use.

    Parts vs whole cost

Re: RE: Parts vs whole cost Yeah, it's for the xm757, not much has been done since Oct/Nov, no fun working outside in the cold. Mostly been collecting parts and researching the history of the truck. If I could keep from spending money on nuts and bolts, I could get some new tires. :-)

    Parts vs whole cost

What's wrong with this picture!? I have already spent money on heaters and related parts equivalent to 1/3 of what I paid for the whole truck and I'm not done yet. Nothing new I know, it's just something to think about, part of the addiction, the excitement of finding the "right part". Meanwhile...

    multifuel injection pump overflow valve

Numbers look good, even the cranking speed is very good.....

    10 grade motor oil

Use this for your hydraulics, it's viscosity is equivalent to 10 weight motor oil. Your local NAPA, Carquest or farm store will also carry AW32 hydraulic fluid, which has the viscosity of 10 weight engine oil, which I use for my crane.

    Deuce in the mud

If you guys want to see these trucks in action at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, get the Vintage Video VHS151 "Study in vehicle mobility", a 33 minute video. The tracked vehicles don't always come out ahead, the M35 and M54 are not very impressive, easily outperformed by the Gama Goat and the M656...

    Deuce in the mud

Andy, your m818 is not the same as the FMTV, but you knew that, right? Don't know about the compressor on the cummins engine....

    Deuce in the mud

The FMTV (5-ton at least) has a 16 CFM compressor vs the 7 CFM for the deuce, so that time should be cut in half....
